Stiff XD .45 ACP controls

Just picked up an XD .45 Tactical. The magazine release is kind of stiff. Also, it's basically impossible to release the slide using the slide release. I have to pull the slide back before I can push the slide release lever down.

Anyone else have problems with stiff controls?

Most firearms always have some "stiff" parts that need to be broken in. just shoot the p1ss out of the gun and use the controls as much as possible if you want to get them working smoothly. I always use the rack the slide from slide lock technique. I have only just started using the slide stop release because it is faster in competition.

My XD-45 tac was pretty stiff when I got it too, all of it. The slide release was the stiffest, I couldn't even do it with 1 thumb for about 50 rounds. Even the recoil spring was really stiff and took a bit of work to open the action. My mag release was a bit stiff, but not at bad as the others. I've got roughly 2K rounds through it now and it's all sooooooooo smooth. The slide release really got much better after about 200 rounds. So as the others said, shoot it to break it in and make sure you use those stiff parts so that they loosen up and get broken in properly. Hope you enjoy and if you have any other questions I'll be happy to help if I know the answer.

The new "stiff" gun is normal.
I use slide glide on all my pistols (and the innards of my wheelguns). That also helps move things along.

Like everyone said, you will have the break it in before it gets loose enough to release it easily. Took mine about 400 rounds or so to loosen up. It's like a new car smell, it will eventually go away.

My car still smells new. But that might be from all the new ammo I keep in there.

Put a thousand rounds through it. It won't be so stuff after that. Also dry fire the crap out of it. This will greatly smooth out the trigger pull and wear down any rough edges on the trigger itself. XDs get better with age and increased round count. The XD is a gun that is meant to be fired on a regular basis.
