New .45 ACP Questions

Picked up my new .45 yesterday. To the point. Should I break down and clean before the first firing or wait until the first rounds are through it? What's the best cleaner to use? What is the best ammo you guys have had luck using? What's the best place to look for a holster. Something for the range, car, etc. I don't mind spending a decent amount for a quality leather job. Can't wait to get it to the range. Thanks for the help.

Little bit of lube and shoot that sucker about 200 times!

What's the best cleaner to use?
There are a lot of good cleaners out there you should do a search to figure out what others are using. I use a super thin oil called Kroil for removing powder residue, but I also have an Ultrasonic cleaner that works very well.

What is the best ammo you guys have had luck using?
I have always had good luck with Fiochi, Magtech, and Winchester White Box. There are others that some says work well. Stay away from Wolf no matter what the guy at the store or how low the price is.

What's the best place to look for a holster?
Did your gun not come with the holster? If not then I have always liked Blade-Tech. If you are worried about Plastic vs Leather I like using Desantis Holsters as well. Try a google search to find Quality manufacturers. If you are looking for something to just hold the pistol on your hip at the range Uncle Mike's has a following as well. I have seen some Fobus holsters, but I would wait for their newer versions to come out.

cbennettx, welcome to the most helpful bunch of folks on a gun forum

Whenever I buy a gun, I will clean of all the cosmoline, then go out & shoot a bit, then give her a good cleaning & lube afterwards... Some folks have different rituals, either way, the advice you get from the folks on this board will be good advice

I'd clean the barrel, oil it and grease the slide before going to the range, but you don't have to do a complete cleaning.

For cleaning I use Hoppe's solvent, Miltec oil and Miltec grease for the slide. Works great.

Holsters seem to be a problem, although others on this site have recommended some.
