Shooting Low
The first time I shot it nearly every shot was about 10-12" low (though not necessarily to the left). My brother took my XD out later that day and complained of the same thing. I thought it was my gun too until I took it to an indoor range and put a few more rounds through it.
Do you have experience shooting an autoloading pistol? My first time out with the XD was disappointing because with my .357 revolver I can get tight groups, but my XD was way low. After some practice during a single range session, I'm used to the feeling of my XD and most of my shots are much better. I guess I was more used to shooting a revolver (so is my brother) and the XD is a new feeling.

dude at the range next to me last week had the same problem...he was dead on with his 357, but way low/left with his brand new glock....he asked me to shoot it and I put 5 rounds through the 10 at 7 yards...he says "guess it aint the gun"...I told him to practice practice practice
