+1

I'll bet someone took it a part and didn't have the take down lever straight up pulling the slide on or taking it off.

My local gun store goes through the gun with the would be owner prior to walking out the door with it. Also good use of time waiting for background check.

I hope you get it resolved, I would be upset also.

My money is on it happening during removal. Someone did not have the lever rotated all the way up, thumbed the slide release, and quietly mumbled "oops".

"Just a gun" or not, you paid for new. Once its scratched it is no longer new. I dont blame you for being mad. I hope they take good care of you.

But, just to play Devil's Advocate here, how is the store to know that you didn't scratch it after taking it home? I am not doubting you, but people of lesser integrity have pulled similar stunts. I would be mad too, but some of that rage would be directed at myself for not checking the weapon when I picked it up. And to be honest, I didn't check out my XD-45 when I picked it up, so I could have easily have been in the same boat...

Cheers! M2

The store should also check it over before giving it to you, and that means both sides. Let's face it, most stores wouldn't mention it.

SA's response and my Reply

Megan,

I appreciate you quick response and honestly in the situation. Just this morning i dropped the pistol off at gander mountain here in Erie, PA. not sure exactly what they are going to do.

However if it does come down to having the gun refinished, exactly what's a ballpark figure to have it done. I'll need something to go to gander mountain management with. i don't belive it left SA in that condition.

i belive someone was messing with it at the store between the time i put a deposit on it , to the time i picked it up.

But right now the ball is in gander mountains court.

Thanks
David

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting me regarding your problem. I greatly apologize that you are having such a hard time with your dealer. The scratch that you have described sounds exactly like a scratch from the take down lever. If you don’t have the lever in a 90 degree angle from the slide then when you remove the slide or put it back on the frame you can scratch it. Unfortunately for you this is normally not covered under the warrantee because it isn’t a manufacturing defect. It honestly wouldn’t have left here that way, it would have to of gotten by many people in inspection if that were true. It had to happen between the time it left here and when it got into your hands. I would definitely recommend that you send the slide into us for inspection. After inspecting it if the tech determines that we need to charge for the refinishing we can contact you at that time with a cost. If you would like to send the slide in please contact me back with your day time phone number and shipping address. I will then give you a return number and further instructions. I do apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you and please don’t hesitate to ask questions. Have a great day!

Best regards,

Megan Klavon

I used to live in Erie. How are things back there these days? They ever catch the pizza bomber?

hehe nope, not yet

and another reply from SA

Dear David,

Thank you for contacting me back. I am glad that you took it back to Gander Mountain, hopefully for you that will be a good decision. The cost for the refinishing would be $30 for the slide only. Feel free to contact me back if you have any further questions or concerns. Have a great day!
