Another Rag Heard From

In the August 2006 issue of GUN TESTS, they put an XD45ACP Service up against a S&W M&P 40. Getting beyond the point that they want to put thumb safeties on each gun (funny, I don't recall them taking such a position with Glocks), their experience with the XD seemed fairly consistent with my experience.

While I don't doubt their sincerity, sometimes they fail to pick up on little things. During their evaluation, the XD was tested with 230gr WWB FMJ, 185gr Speer Gold Dots, and 200gr Hornady JHPs (No. 9113) and the author noted that "felt recoil was only noticable with the Hornady rounds." While not mentioned in the write-up, it may have something to do with Hornady 9113's being +P. If 9113's are anything like 200gr +P Gold Dots, I certainly agree that will get one's attention.

In the one-on-one comparison, the XD was preferred, largely because the M&P kept throwing flyers during the accuracy test. YMMV.

Funny, one of my favorite features on the XD is the lack of a "safety" in the traditional sense. I call it "innovation". I love a ready gun. I am thankful SA made it the way it is rather than the way some Gun Writers would expect it to be.

Thanks for the info on the M&P. They have caught my eye.
