New XD45 owner
Well, I'm happy to see that there is still an XD45 discussion room!
I was going to purchase an XD9 (for the wife) and a XD40, but when the salesperson brought out an XD45 - I had to have it! So, I bought the XD40 (for the wife) the XD45! I took the XD45 outside tonight for the first time loaded with CCI Blazer Brass 230 gr. FMJ. The last handgun of any decent caliber that I had fired was a S&W .41 revolver - a long time ago, so I had some uneasy feelings about the XD. I shouldn't have worried! What a sweet shooting pistol! I mean it does have quite a muzzle blast, but I'm quite surprized as to the recoil - it was not as bad as I thought it would be! Man - I love this pistol! Mike

Congrats, you were lucky to find an XD-45 ACP as I had to wait several weeks before my local Sportsman's Warehouse got one in. I came off from firing a Col .357 Magnum so the recoil wasn't as big of an issue with me, but I have fired 300 rounds through it without a problem. It is a great gun and I am glad I was adamant about waiting for it, as I think anything less would have been a compromise in my mind. Enjoy! M2 |

Great choice. You may want to try some different ammo to cut down on the muzzle flash. If you want to have a little fun, fire a few rounds of Blazer at night. It looks more like a flame thrower than a pistol.

I suspect Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel ammo will have reduced muzzle flash. The specs on the Speer web site were obtained from a 4" test barrel. It is my carry ammo, but I haven't shot it in the dark, so I can't say for sure.

wondering if I made the right choice
I am incredibly happy I bought the XD45 5 inch tactical. But am a little concerned about concealment. Should I have just bought the 4 inch or wait and buy the sub compact. I've put about 300 rounds through it and I have to say it feel nice I used to have a Ruger P90 which I liked to the weight kept the kick of the shot down which I liked. The XD does the same thing at a much lower weight. I feel like this is one of the best buys I've ever made. Just need some feed back on concealment, I've never carried a gun eventhough when I turned 21 I bought a license to carry one. And what do you guys do about having a gun and having to go into a place where its not allowed? I talked to a cop one time and he said that the car is a bad place more pieces get stolen that way than any other. So I'm pretty new and not a bad shot with this marvel of mechanical perfection.

Warning! Warning!
Bought the 4"ACP for me and the SC9 for the Department of Finance and Sex. She likes her SC but she loves my.45. I think I'll have to buy another for me.
