adjust sights

I noticed when i go to the range that my shot group is ok, but they are all to the left about 4 inches or so.. how can i adjust the sights?? and do i adjust the front or rear? I am going to be sending it off ion a month or so to get night sights installed..but for now was wondering about adjusting them.

I always tell people to let someone else (preferably a good shot--a range officer or friend would work) shoot your gun to see if the problem is you or the gun.

Poor trigger technique (i.e. too much finger) can cause you to pull the shots to the left.

If the problem is indeed the gun the sights can be drifted with a brass punch and a hard mallet.

If not concentrate on where you're putting your finger and slowly squeeze the trigger until you can reliably predict the shot.

Push the rear sight in the direction you want the bullets to go, in your case you want to go to the right..good luck, XD sights are a pain to move around.

Before moving the sights, you might try shooting from a sandbag or rest to see if you have the same results. You may be surprised!

Exclamation

If you are grouping, move the sight. The whole purpose of adjustable sights is to adjust the gun to YOU.

Where it shoots off sandbags or where someone else groups is irrelevant...it is YOUR gun and should shoot where YOU point it. Each person sees the sight picture and fires the weapon slightly different.

Your life may depend on accurate shot placement with it, so make it fit you. Not the other way around.

I used a 1/8" punch/drift, with a good squared off end. Lightly tap the drift with a small hammer right in the groove at the base of the rear sight to move it. Lay the drift as low as possible to minimize scratching the sight base groove. Mine was pretty tight, but it moved. Be patient.

One tip....make a pencil witness mark down the sight to the slide so you can see how much you moved it.

Repeat the above until it prints center for YOU.

I disagree here, if your shots are off due to the sights being off that is fine. If your shots are off because of poor form (gripp, stance, sight picture, etc) then those things need corrected first with practice and instruction. Especially if your life may depend on it.

i called the range safety guy to shoot a clip and his shot landed exactly where mine did.. so that would tell me that the sights are outta line. he also tried using a sandbag to shoot and same thing..
