Range Comparison XD9/XD45acp (4&5in.)
I’ve had my XD45acp Tactical for a few weeks now and have enjoyed shooting it, but this was the first chance I’ve had to do a heads up comparison.
We used an XD9 I’ve had for a few years that has been utterly reliable with close to 14,000 rounds through it, by students from beginner to expert, I can only recall 2 malfunctions (both were ammo related as near as we could tell). After my experience with the 9, I knew I had to have a 45acp and got the tactical as soon as I could, I was able to borrow a 4 in. version for testing from a friend of mine. The Tactical has about 300 rounds through it, and the 4 in. about 600. I also took along a 1911 and a Model 19 S&W, for group comparison. At the end of the session, I would have to say it doesn’t matter which XD you get, between 3 of us we could not really tell any difference in recoil or recovery between any of them. Granted all of us are experienced shooters and, 2 of us are instructors. We did have a little ammo sensitivity with both 45s, but it was with reloads (SWC-IPSC Major loads) and I think that it is just learning to load for these guns and not 1911’s. We all took a little time to get used to the triggers, but with some practice you can prep it just like your 1911 or a revolver. I’ve heard for years that a 1911 is an expert’s gun and I disagree, it is a gun that requires some training and practice to master the control system. The individual who does have the time or inclination to do that will love the XD system and I think it should score highly in the new military tests. Among the things I have tried to teach my students are 3 requirements for a self-defense firearm: 1. it must be 110% Reliable!! 2. It must be easy to use! 3. It must fit you! The XD system does all that and more! and it’s affordable. Whats not to like? Last edited by shamrock; 08-02-2006 at 11:58 AM. |
