Trap

Sorry, but if all I had to do is put my guns in storage to spend the next two years in Germany, off they go! I did four years at Ramstein (95-99), as well as spent a lot of time there as a kid (my mother is from Würzburg, and I was born in Frankfurt). It is a great country and you will find tons of things to do even if you can't shoot. Plus, you are in the Army, don't you guys weapons qual on a regular basis? I was USAF, and even I got to fire M9s, MP-5s, etc. at my last European assignment (three years at SHAPE in Belgium).

Sure, it sucks having to leave your beloved handguns behind, but that is a small sacrifice for the great opportunity you are getting...spending two years in Germany (as long as you don't spend a year of that in Iraq!). Make the most of it!

Cheers! M2

When you start missing going to the range with your new XD, head into town and drink some of the local brew, eat some great food and enjoy the local girls company. It will work. Trust me.

I've been to Germany (Hohenfels) twice for two week summer training. During our down time we all went to the train station and went to either Regensburg or Nuremburg. We also got a day in Munich and Rothenburg. Man was it fun!! I really envy you.

P.S. Learn some German and use it whenever you can. I found the locals appreciate the effort and will be nicer to you.

I spent 3 years in Munich in the 80's it was the best 3 years of my life. Did they close the Rod & Gun clubs? When I was there we could buy guns & ammo through the local r&g club. Thats where I bought my first two handguns a CZ 75 and a Taurus 669. Cheer up its not like you are going to be in Korea or Iraq. The bigger Cities never close, They will deliver beer to your door, The German women are HOT, Nudity is everywhere, and the food is great. Get out into Germany, take tours, enjoy the experience.

If your friend can't find fun in Germany than I am sorry to say he must be a moron! Between the numerous fests (beer and wine) each village holds, and the wonderful Gasthaus that are everywhere, plus a million things to do, you can't blame the country if he didn't have a good time. But, I spent nearly half of my USAF career overseas, and I had fun in places that weren't considered fun...Afghanistan, Bosnia, Czechoslovakia, etc. It all depends on the individual. Be adventurous and you will enjoy yourself...sit in the barracks and watch AFN all the time, and it will drag.

Like gsh341 I am envious...I would gladly pack up my XD-45 for the chance to go back to Germany. It is well worth it!

Cheers! M2

Germany was great. I almost got court marshaled and throw in jail. Of course I escaped before they could do it. So much fun.

Send your XD's to me. I'll babysit while you are gone.

Enjoy Germany.

When were you there? I might have been one of the MP's chasing you. 86-89 for me.
