200gr. semi wadcutters
My wife just bought me a xd.45 for a early birthday gift you can't get no better than that.I'm new to the forum, and a new xd owner.I carried the gun to the range today, and what a great gun!I have a question I had some lead 230gr.round nose shot fine I had 230gr.jacketed round nose shot fine, but then I put in some 200gr.semiwadcutters in and it had a hard time feeding&ejecting them.I have about 2000 200gr.semiwadcutters,and I would like to use them.Does anybody have any experence with the issue, and can give me any advise? Thanks. PS.I am farliy new to reloading, and it is a .45acp service model.

I had the same problem. I think the 200 gr loads were to weak to work the spring properly in my case. If somebody has a load for 200gr semi-wadcutters that works, please post it.

What is your powder type and weight?
I tried all kinds of 185gr and 200gr LSWCs in my XD45ACP 5" and while they fed fine, they leaded-up the chamber in only 100 rounds and then would no longer function. I have found the moly coated and the copper plated SWCs function perfectly in my gun. I'm using 4.5gr Titegroup, I also used 4.2gr Winchester 231 (these are light loads but strong enough to cycle the gun). What is the exact bullet and your OAL? With the lighter SWCs, you have to ignore the standard OAL and just seat the bullet so about 0.020 to 0.050" of the fat part of the bullet is sticking out of the case. This means your OAL will be 'too short'. |

swc's
You may find that you will need to "crimp" a little tighter also. (I use .468/.469). The Enos forum has lot's of good info for 1911's.... lot's of that general reloading info applies to the XD also..... another easy to do tip is to polish the feed ramp of the barrel using a spent case and 400,then 1000 grit wet or dry sand paper(body/paint supply stores,$1.00)(I also use 1200 grit after the 1000) in a up & down movement(also from the Enos forum). Of course, your recoil spring weight, mag springs, power factors of your ammo, etc. all play a part in making the SWC's use different than RN bullets. I also polish (NOT enlarge) the barrel chamber (Lapadary supply store, use the "green" stick and your Drimel w/ felt pad). Haven't found a gun that won't shoot SWC's but some take more diligence than others..... The nut's and bolt's of this is..... make it as easy for the gun as possible to digest these rounds... GOT to love the "big" hole from those SWC's....!!!

Hey,Tard thanks for all the advise.I have seated the whole "body" of the bullet in the case enough to still get a crimp, and the oal is still 1.245.The only part of the bullet exposed is the cone part.I won't get to try any till this weekend can't wait.

I think what is happining is the rim of the outgoing fired brass is catching on the incoming bullet at where the lead is coming out of the brass. My fix is to stagger wadcutter roundnose wadcutter roundnose etc...PS Thanks for everybodys advise.

You are right about the cases catching on the way out. I have given up on LSWC and am now trying out Berry's SWC. It seems to work 100% at an OAL of 1.250-1.260 but I am still working on this. To date I have used several different LSWC and even modified a magazine to no avail. So If I can get these SWC to work 100% all the time I may have found my Holy Grail finally.
