New XD .45

I just purchased a new XD .45, should I give it a cleaning before firing for the first time? I've heard yes and no. Thanks for any input.

I clean everything. Some new firearms come caked in factory grease. My son got a used H&K USP compact and it was very clean but dry not a drop of oil or lube anywhere. Plus always good to get familiar with cleaning and take down of your firearms.

ive done both? oil or dry guns been the main problem i had with a new gun,

Wouldn't hurt to clean it, inspect it and oil it.

^ +1 to clean, oil, inspect and then shoot away. I bought my XD45 4" Service model about six weeks ago. Excellent gun and very accurate. One of my favorites.

I use Hoppes #9 to clean the bore, Breakfree CLP to clean everything else and RemOil to oil anything requiring lubrication on all my guns.
