Cuda was simply saying that since the vast majority of police departments use the 40, odds are that IF an agency WERE to decide to switch calibers they would be changing from 40 to something else. Purely based on numbers.

Actually, yes, that's how this all started. On page 2, Cuda said the 40 is the most abandoned caliber. I disagree. How can it be the most abandoned caliber if only a handful of agencies have switched away from it?
Since nobody has any data to back up their statements, I guess we will never know. I would be willing to bet that more agencies have switched to the 40 cal in the last 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 10 years, 20 years than have switched away from it. Therefore, I fail to see how it is the most abandoned caliber.
Cuda, do you have any data to back up your statement that the 40 cal is the most abandoned caliber?

See my last post.
How many large agencies in the past couple of years have switched TO the .40 from another caliber?

Ok, I get what you are saying.
But you do not understand what I am saying.
I cannot think of a more simple way to say it. You are over analyzing what my point is.
I am done with this thread.
Have a good evening.

You didn't answer my question. Do you have any data to back up your statement that the 40 caliber is the most abandoned caliber?

I can see that you're going to end this debate with name calling instead of backing up your statements with proof. I won't stoop to your level, so I yield. You win. I don't have the energy to continue. Goodnight all.
On a lighter note, this is my interpretation of how every thread that Cuda post in ends.

.40 cal abandonment issues aside, a ninja would read the OP and think "wow cheap used pistols are about to come on the market!!"

Going from .40 to 9mm is a good move I think. From my experience, leo's can be a little lack when it comes to shooting practice and the .40 cal. is not for the infrequent shooter imo. If I am not mistaken, the leo percentage of rounds missed is quite high and the round most used is the 40. I have an FNP 9 and love it.

Nobody is saying that the .40 is or will become obsolete. Nobody is saying that there are droves of agencies dropping the .40. Just that if this agency is changing to the 9mm then more than likely the majority of firearms being replaced were .40 and not .45 cal. Same with any agency that is changing calibres to something other than .40.
Try this one.
Microsoft windows has roughly 91% of the market share. 91% of the PCs run windows so if X company is changing to MACs then it goes to say that more than likely they are dropping windows and going to OS X. Nobody is saying that widnows is becoming obsolete.
Same thing with the .40 to 9mm thing.

9mm and .45 (both ACP and GAP) are the most common calibers being switched to, with .357sig following not far behind.

Okay, now I see where you were heading with this.
