Well if you listen to anyone with a .45, its because even the ricochet will blow someones arm clean off.

FMJs for the range and always hollow points for self defense. Never heard of a range not allowing them. Welcome aboard.

thanks. good site. but i've heard fragments of the bullet can ricochet so i'm not sure what the main reason is. dont you think hollow point is a bit excessive for self defense?

Not excessive at all, actually much safer all around. A lot less chance of over penetration.

Also, what kind of hollow points? All bullets are not created equal.

I have never heard of a range not allowing HPs. I seriously doubt that a range would have such a policy.

One of the ranges I am a member of here doesn't allow steel core (I can see why..) But all four ranges I visit (including indoor) have zero issues with HPs.

When talking home/self defense there is NEVER "too much." It is amazing how "just enough" can turn into "not enough."

You sound new to firearms, and if that is the case I highly recommend taking an intro class, or defense class to help you figure out what is true, and what is here-say, myth, and internet legend.

Very few topics have the ridiculous amount of misinformation like firearms.

Congrats on the .45acp. I love my XD.45, it gets fed weekly and never fails to impress.
