Jamming XDM .45
I've recently purchased a XDM .45 and I am experiencing a fair bit of jamming. The ammo I'm using is Winchester fmj rn 230 grain. Winchester jhp is also jamming up just as much. At first I though it was a oil problem (too much) so I went a bit dryer and have found the same result. I meet a shooter at the range that suggest not fully filling the high cap clips for jam prevention and that seemed to work until yesterday. Kinda at a loss. I've bought some federal and TulAmmo rounds for me next bit of range time to see if the .45 just doesn't like Winchester. Any other advice is appreciated, thank you for your time.

Please describe the type of jam you are experiencing. Was the pistol new when you purchased it?

Failure to feed, magazine to clip. The spent shell is ejected and the slide is partially closed due to the improperly chambered next round. The pistol was purchased new.

Does the failure to feed occur with all of your magazines? If the problem occurs with only one of your magazines, the mag is the most likely culprit. 230 gr. FMJ ammo should always feed. Make sure the feed ramp is clean.

Welcome to the forum!
I do not know how much experience you have in shooting, so please do not take this as a personal slight. It may be you. It may be that you are "limp-wristing" and not holding the pistol firmly enough to allow the slide to travel all the way back to its natural stop against the frame. (ETA: Even experienced shooters have had this issue when going from having shot only heavy, metal framed firearms to polymer. I had this issue when I first started shooting XDs. I was using the crossed thumbs hold that I used when shooting government issued M9s, and large framed revolvers. A good firm thumbs-forward grip fixed the issue for me right away...as well as the low-left round impacts that I was experiencing when I first started shooting the XD and XD(m). This, and using the largest back-strap on you XD(m) .45 should get the slight-left strike of your rounds more towards the center.)
Have another (preferably an experienced shooter) shoot the weapon and see if he/she has the same results.
Have another (preferably an experienced shooter) watch you as you shoot to see if you are limp-wristing.
If it isn't you, it is probably the magazine as smokey has mentioned.

What do you mean, "magazine to clip"? What do you mean "improperly chambered round"? What position is the round when the slide is closed?

+1 Very good points and with a new pistol probably the culprit unless only having an issue with one of the mags.

I don't want to hijack but I just experienced the same issue today.
Background: I am fairly new to shooting and my brand new (a year ago) .45 xd compact only had one misfeed. Now I have only put a couple of hundred rounds through it but in that time I only had one misfeed and blamed that on junk ammo.
Today, of all days (my qualifying for CCW) my pistol misfed 3 out of 40 times, discribed just like the OP). The instructor showed me the recovered rounds after and said that he thought it was a magazine issue. I can't be 100% certain but I think all three were with the same mag (my 13rnd extended magazine).
However, I did want to point out that once again I was using unfamiliar ammo. In this case it was the Winchester Ranger. I know what you are thinking. Why would anyone spend that kind of brass at the range? 1. I wanted to qualify with what I was going to carry. 2. I ran into a situatiion where I didn't have any other viable ammo on hand. 3. It was about a year old and I wanted to cycle it through and get new.
Regardless of what the issue was, I am really glad I found out on the range and not on the street.

I have had problems in the past with my xd45 not fully going into battery with cast lead ammo. I now have about 2k rounds through it and it functions flawlessly with ball or hollow point ammo.

Did you happen to check the OAL of that ammo you were having issues with? They might not have been seated deeply enough which caused the bullets to engage the rifling--causing the weapon to stop just short of battery.
