Don's springs for the XD 45 5" tactical - Who is using?

Just curious what Lbs. don springs are you using in your XD45 tactical with factory ammo?

Or what Lb. springs have you tried and what have you found to work best with factory ammo?

I would also like to hear answers to these question for the XD 9mm service as well.

When I got mine, I also bought a couple of different set of springs to try out with it. So far I like the 16# spring the best. It ejects the brass a good 4-5 feet away towards the 5 o'clock position. You can definatly tell the recoil is reduced a tiny bit but it is still noticable. I also have used the 22# spring extensivly as well and while the followup shots are much quicker with that of the 22# v the 16# spring, it does not throw the brass as far as the 16# spring. But it is still much better then stock nonetheless.

So far I have close to 1200 rounds through it with the DGR and not a single FTF or FTE due to the rod and spring combo. Next up I might try my 20# spring and get a 14# spring to try out.

There is also a bushing that sits flush with the slide to hold the spring into place. First couple of times I tried to change the springs the bushing will come loose in the slide and you have to use to guide rod to reseat the bushing back into place. After about 400 rounds or so the bushing will not move making spring changes a lot easier. Only design change I would do is to make the guide rod a tad shorter, so that it can sit flush with the end of the slide. But that is just me being nit picky about it. The stock rod sit's out a tiny bit too.

NIt-picky is fine! I can go for any dimension I or you want, and that is why I send out the prototypes. No dimensions are fixed in stone.

Hey don, I was re readin the paper you wrote on that came with the service 45 spring you sent me, as you know it wont fit my tactical but you say it will work fine in my 9 service? Well I know I said id ship it back to ya but do you mind if I keep it for test sake?

If you think it will go to better use in a service 45 then no problem.

Let me know... Its the #25

Thanks Don

I am one of the eight I guess and have been using the #16 spring. I am still working out some more different loads. But to date no problems what so ever. I am working with LSWC at the moment an they are working out well. When I use the stock set up I get the occational FTE but not with Don's. Hey Don do you know what the stock spring is?

When my pistol was not yet shot I took a reading on the scale at work and was getting about 24#. Since it had not been cycled yet and had not taken any set, I didn't really trust that number. I have yet to abuse that spring to take a measurement that I believe.

I'm shooting 185gr LWSC with 5.5gr Win231 in my XD45ACP 5" and would very much like a reduced spring for it, please advise when we can order 'em!
