FTL/Slide Stop Lever Floating Free

Wanted to see if anyone else had this problem.

Just got back from the range, and just a few rounds into my second clip, I got my first FTL. Kept it down range and tilted it to the side to see what happend. Slide was only halfway forward, leaving the ejection port half open, where I could see a round not fitting quite right... pulled back the slide, and it came out easily. I inspected the round, and couldn't see anything funky about it, but put it aside anyways. Removed the clip, everything looked okay there, so reinserted, and closed the slide and took another shot.

Another FTL.

Looked the same, and having read about FTL/FTE problems on this forum, I looked at the other side of the weapon, and sure enough, my slide stop lever was out of it's home, had floated forward with the slide and had likely caused the jam.

Dropped the mag after removing the round, and racked the slide manually, and watched it happen. The slide stop lever was leaving it's little home nitch and floating forward with the slide, causing it to jam halfway forward.

Anyone else have this problem, know if this is any easy fix, or if I should just hop on the phone with SA?

Call SA. It sounds like it is no longer being held in place by the locking block pin

I pulled it apart, it's actually broken. I'm going to explain this in highly technical terms, for I hope the unitiated can forgive me: The part of the slide stop that is sticky outy, and the part that's just inside the frame, cracked off from the rest of the lever.

That's an SA fix. Still be interested to hear if other people have that problem, or if I just got a "monday morning" slide stop lever.

Just talked to Meghan at SA Repair, who's info is stickied in the "Latest HS2000 & SA-XD FAQ" forum. I called late on Sunday night, and she just called me back at 11a SA time.

This was the first time she'd heard of the problem, and she actually had to do some checking to see if that part was immediately available (I make my living talking to people on the phone, and while I won't proclaim that I can hear a lie every time, I got no indication she was BSing on that). I'm a complete newb on this stuff, but she was very patient to make sure we were talkign about the right part, checked to see if I was comfortable repairing it myself. I said I'd take it to a weaponsmith, and she wanted to make sure I knew one who can work on an XD, and offered to have me send it to them to repair. I decided to have them send me the part so I could get the gun turned around faster. They're charging me like $12.50 for the part, but if I mail them back the broken part so they can inspect it, they'll credit me the $12.50. Sounds fair to me, but I was also planning on sending them the part so they could check it for necessary "process improvements".

All in all, I was very impressed with the options I was given (not "it's our way or the highway"), the patience and professionalism, and the desire to make things right in a way that was not only acceptable to me, but easy and preferrable as well.

Can't expect any mechanical device coming off an assembly line to be perfect every time, but it's nice to see a company standing by their product in such a no-nonsense way.

What's a clip? I have never used one in a semi auto pistol, I have however used a lot of magazines in them.

Hah! None taken. Last line was the only serious part there.

What happened to your avatar? I dug the eagle and flag.

I decided to throw my Kimber Covert Stainless up there for a while.

It's an awsome carry piece that I trust my life to every day, it's 100% made in the USA and is as American as the flag or eagle, so I thought it deserved a place of honor.
