Just got a XD45

I'm new to the forum and finding lots of good info here. i just bought a XD45 in 4" with Streamlight TLR2 light. I will be taking it to the range on monday to see how it goes. I have been an avid Kimber shooter for some time now and have only had 1911's. I really wanted to try something else and the XD45 seemed like the right choice. I'll give yo a range report when I get back.

Welcome! I'm new here too!

Getting my new 4" XD-45 has been a great experience for me, and I am continuing to get more and more familiar with mine. My experiences have been really positive. I am fairly sure that you will have absolutely no regrets.

I'm grateful that I actually have one. Not every gun nut will be as fortunate as you and I... I wish they could be.

Welcome aboard;

As you did; I took/purchased the XD 45 ACP Service model, and I am a 1911 "guy". My expeience with the gun has been extremly positive. I did find that the "felt" recoil was stronger than the 1911. You'll also notice (from the Kimbers) that is not as accurate (but accurate enough for a defensive weapon). But, what trully impressed me 9Even suprised me) s the reliability. I now have 1550 rounds of every type of ammo I have and tried, with no Failures!!!

I just Ordered the trueglo TFO sights, becuase I think the standard sights are not at par with the weapon. (IMHO).

I believe you'll like your XD.

Nerves.......I wonder how the light mounted to the XD might affect felt recoil....? Might tame it a little.....depends on how heavy the light assembly is. I assume they do have some amount of weight, considering batteries.

Just a thought

Me,too!

I am also a 1911 guy, owning a Colt Gov't Model, a Kimber Custom CDP and S&W SW1911Sc. In the past, I've tried a Glock and, although I shot well with it, I was not impressed.

Friday afternoon, I went to the range and rented an XD45, after having done a lot of reading about them. Well, after shooting 100 rounds through one, I was hooked!

And that's why I bought my XD45ACP Service Model that afternoon!

Your on target; My Personal experience has been with the insight M6 (Light/Laser) and although I could not "feel", in a tactile" way, any less recoil, I can say, that the sight picture re-aligment is easier with the light. also (for me), I believe it allows me to "double tap" faster. The wierd part, is that the "lateral" movement of the gun (TGT aquisition) feels awesome with the light on. Not sure if it's me, but double tapping, 1 standard NRA Pistol (25 yard) target and moving to the next at 7 and 15 feels much better (Balanced) for me. (IMHO).

What do you think of the Streamlight TLR2 light? I am thinking about getting one for my XD Service.

i'm going round and round about an upstair gun. i know how a 1911 recoils, no problem. i know how a p220 recoils, hate it. while it is subjective, can someone describe the recoil of the XD-45?

i'll either stick a 45 or 40 - my prefered calibers for the house, or 9mm - my prefered caliber for carry - in the upstairs safe.
