Bought a XD-45 5in today!
Dropped by the local dealer today to check and see if he had a 5 inch in stock... he did and I ended up buying it. $529 plus tax and he gave me 150 rounds of blazer aluminum case ammo with it. I stopped by the range on the drive home and ran all 150 rounds thru it. I had my .44 contender and went to the rifle range to test a few loads.. so I shot it at 25yds on the rifle range instead of the pistol range. I was pretty impressed with the way it ran and the accuracy at 25yds with the elcheapo ammo.
There are two things I'm not all that happy about, first thing is the trigger on it, granted it is better than my G19, MUCH better than my brothers Sigma, and a million times better than my Keltec.. but I was thinking it would be a little lighter. I've decided that I'm going to send it to Canyon Creek for one of their trigger jobs after 1,000 rounds or so. Has anyone had this done on their XD? How was the "before and after" factor on the mod? My second complaint is that the front sight blade seems like it is too thin for the notch in the rear sights. It is like there is too much of a "gap" on each side of the front blade in the sight picture. Am I crazy or has anyone else thought this too? Is there a good adjustable aftermarket sight for the 5in XD? Thanks! |

I actually like the sights on my XD45ACP Tactical, but after only 300 rounds I sent it to CC for a trigger job: no joke, it's a great gun with a STIFF, LONG trigger!
I expect it back from CC this coming week, will tell you what I think, but all reviews are 100% positive of CC so I expect to be happy. I asked for a 3# trigger and I had the feed ramp polished since I'll be shooting mostly LSWC reloads. Since I reload .45, I expect to shoot this gun a lot more than my XDS 9mm (my carry gun) when it comes back. I also really like this gun and am very impressed with the out-of-box accuracy of it (and my other .45 is a Colt Gold Cup with a 2# trigger). T. |

If you're just shooting for groups slowfire in a bullseye match then the smaller gap is helpful.

Might want to consider sending it off to Scott at Springer Precision for the trigger job. He is hella fast with turnaround times. Memorial Day week I sent him my 45 on a tuesday, he got it on wenesday and I got the gun back that very Friday for the long weekend. I am not too sure on the CC trigger jobs but Springer Precision's are reversible if you ever want to put it back to stock. I had the 3# trigger done and got rid most of the pre-travel and reset. Scott does awesome work!
