question about shot location

call me ignorant but I've shot my gun on several occasions. Place the target at 6:00 and i shoot low left. Place the target on the sights and it is left. Had a
deputy shoot a few rounds. He too shot left to low left. Granted I am not a great shot but the deputy thought the sights may be a little off. BTW, shooting at about 15 yards. I tried weak trigger finger, holding tighter, .... Any thoughts?

Dont really know a cure for you. I do Know I shot low to the left whwn I first got my 45. I then researched on how to grip the gun and the best way to pull the trigger ect ect ect... This page really helped me. I never shoot low to the left at all any more and actually place the shots about where I want them..

Really read this top to bottom even if you know most of it, it will help I think as it really helped me..

Too much trigger finger...back off until the trigger is on the pad of your finger, not at the joint.

I'm the total opposite. Low to the left with the pad and dead center with the joint.

Don't forget to reset the trigger controllably. Don't let your finger fly off the trigger after each shot. let the trigger go until it "clicks", then stop.

Ayoob is right on. Squeeze the grip until your hand trembles, then back off jsut a hair. That will generally eliminate most errors.

I use the pad of my index finger for the trigger. If I move my finger to the outside so the tip of the pad is on the trigger, my shots tend to go left. I seem to be more centered if I am on the pad but close to the first joint. This was confirmed when I was playing with the laser dot. I'd aim at a point on the wall then squeeze the trigger all the way to the end of the travel. I noticed the red dot would move to the left when the trigger bottomed out. My index finger was applying a slight push to the left. Using the pad near the joint prevented the movement.

back from the range, completed the CCW course. That website was the cure. All went extremely well today. I was trying to use all three sites instead of concentrating on the front site only. Thanks for your assistance!

Glad to hear, im sure now that you have read that website, you will only get better. After awhile you wont even have to "check list" how your handling the pistol, it will all come second nature and you will then become a pro . Alot of people do not know the basics, I tried to give my buddy some pointers but he just will not listen or even attempt to listen, he does not even have a "group" his shots are all over the place on the target, that is if he even hits the target. I know its him because I shoot his pistol "17L" and I place very tight groups, should I dare to say tighter then my 45?

Oh by the way, he sold off his 17L today because he said it shot like crap All I could do is just keep quiet and shake my head, if he would just slow down a bit he would enjoy shooting a lot more and love that 17L .He even mentioned he was thinking of quiting shooting because he shoots like crud, what a sport huh? I think hes more of a guy that likes the sound of a gun firing rapidly more then anything., yea thats fun sometimes but thats maybe 2% of the "fun" of a firearm hobby. You just gotta learn how to shoot the damn thing accuratly, hell or high water.. Right? I dont know, it just kinda bugged me and thought id express it on here

EDIT:: Just was browsing and came across a guys personal quote and thought it kinda went with what I was blabing about:: "Fast is fine, accuracy is final..."

The problem I had was shooting about 2" left consistently. So after 3000 rounds I moved the front sight and now I shoot to the center. It is no longer in between the marks on the slide. So I either grip it wrong or the thing is off by that much to shoot to center. But as long as I am shooting like I am I am happy.
