XD-45 Slide jammed
I just got back from the range and saw a fella with a new (200rounds) XD-45 Service. It had the dreaded slide jam that I have been reading about. It appears that the feed ramp is jammed in front of the camming block. Without tools and pounding to free this, it was jammed tight. I told him to send it back to Springfield, as is, on their dime both ways. My XD-40 was the only new pistol I ever had to send back to the manufacturer. Seeing this had made me seriously re-think my desire to purchase an XD-45 Tactical until they find out what this problem is. My $ .02.

Mine did that with reloads the third shot of the very first mag. I could not budge it and finally when I realized no one at the indoor range was watching I used the shooting table to push on and broke it free. That round had a big flat spot on the bullet but there's been no problems since.

OH GEEEE! Must have been the dreaded "operator error" syndrome running rampant amongst XD45 owners.

XD-45 Slide jammed
I have tried to duplicate this condition on my XD-9 Service and my XD-40 Tactical. I have been unable to duplicate it. So maybe.......not operator error!

It's O.E.. It's when the rod gets slightly of center and you put the slide back on.
If you still need help with this, pm me, I can talk you thru it over the phone. Basically, what needs to be done is to hit, yes hit, the breech end of the barrel with a wood dowel or brass something, you want to drive the barrel toward the front of the gun. I have posted on this and gotten many replies back about how easy and fast it is to do. There is no real reason to send it back to SA. But to each his own. |

Just spent the last ffew minutes stripping and re-assembling the gun to se what was up. As has been stated the problem lies in the guide rod assembly being caught by the front edge of recoil block (hunk of metal the slide rides on) rather than it seating into its groove and coming to rest in its proper place. This cause the barrel to come out of battery and get hooked under the block. The fit of the guide rod is pretty tight and it is pretty easy to move it one way or the other. I am surprised that he leading edge of the block is not chamfered to force the guide rod in place during assembly. Not that difficult a process to put a small chamfer on that edge, especially if its a MIM part as some have rumored. Maybe next rev. In the mean time if you assemble slow enough you will feel the guide rod catch. On mine, the assembly process doe snot feel right if I force the rod to catch on the leading edge of the block. It is a very tight fit and you can feel the recoil spring compress before things get locked in place. For now it looks like CARE during assembly is going to have to be the order of the day. Maybe when were all sendingoff our guns for trigger jobs we can request that the smith camfer that edge and eliminate the problem for us.

Is this only inherent to the tactical model??? I have a service model that has not experienced any such problems and I am at 800+ rounds.
