sore elbow from shooting?

Since I've had my XD, I've been shooting a lot. I have something like tennis elbow. Anybody have a similar experience?

Yes I have... But it is not related to shooting.

Mine does once in a while. I try not to tense my arm so much when I shoot. It also helps me to exercise the elbow through its full range in the morning. After I brush my teeth, I do these half-ass push ups against the bathroom sink. I step back from the sink and put my hands on the edge of the bathroom sink counter top. Then do like 5 push ups. It puts my elbow through the full range of motion with some light load. Yes, it sucks when your mind is young and your body isn't.

Never had the elbow thing but my right wrist gets a bit sore when shooting lots of +P .45 ammo.

Yes I experienced the same thing

It's a form of tennis elbow. I started using a Tenex elbow shock absorber about 10 years ago and haven't had a problem since. The shock absorber is a wristband holding a dome filled with mercury. It intercepts the shock of the recoil and stops it from getting to your elbow. It was originally developed for tennis players but works amazingly well for shooting magnum class or large bore pistols. Do a search on Tenex tennis and you will get several hits. Here's one link:

Hope this helps.

Seriously, I would stretch out your arm, elbow and wrist before and after shooting to help. Golfers or Tennis elbow is not fun. The only cure is rest, and that does not eliminate it. You risk it coming back later on.

I just recently had surgery to help with the Golfers Elbow and Ulnar Tunnel Syndrome. I now have to learn how to handle a firearm again. It has changed everything I do and do not want to see anyone go through this.

Look for stretches online and try a brace or two like heritageguy suggested.

Good Luck

I've had success with an elbow brace that compresses the tendons and helps absorb shock. The pain in the immediate elbow area where the tendons attack is gone, but there is tenderness further up the forearm in the direction of the hand. I'm also taking naproxyn.

Went to the range today and shot 100 rounds of 9 millimeter after warming up with stretches. No pain.

I'm also watching my grip: no locked elbows and a better distribution of grip between both hands.

Wish me luck.

I might try an elbow brace and see how that goes for me.
