Some questions re: XD45. Very excited about this pistol!

I shoot both 9mm and .45ACP and enjoy both rounds. Was about to purchase a Glock 19 but have decided to check out the XD45 in more detail.

I haven't handled one yet but have an idea as to size based on a lot of the threads that I read.

Is the axis a low or high bore? I shoot a Steyr M9 with a low bore axis and like this quite a bit.

Is the grip about the same thickness as a G30? Perhaps it's thinner?

I'd definitely order a Milt Sparks OWB for the pistol. Being the grip is a little longer than a 1911, any problems 'concealing' it in a top notch OWB holster?

Nice forum!

Forgot one question: Is it true that you cannot purchase parts from SA or anyone else? You have to send the pistol in to repair or replace a part?

Yes the parts thing is true, at least until folks start making parts.

You need to handle one. I find it extremely comfortable. I'm not sure about the thickness compared to a glock, but I can tell you that I have very small hands, and this is the only double-stack 45 I can grip well.

It's a high-bore axis design unlike your steyr, however, I find the gun totally controllable for a light 45. I think this is because the ergonomics are so good. I shot a few magazines out of it, and then traded with my buddy, who was shooting an H&K Mark 23. It was a nice piece, but I didn't find it any more accurate, and it had more muzzle flip...

As far as concealment goes, I'm a small guy, and the long grip makes the gun a little harder to conceal than a G19. If you dress appropriately I don't think it's an issue.

Try it. You'll like it.

Thanks for the beta guys! I'll keep my eye out for one in the area and see how it feels in my hand.

I do feel a little uncomfortable and please correct me if you would, about the parts issue.

One of the reasons I've been looking at a G19 is that you could get parts everywhere if you need 'em.

Having to send the XD45 back to SA factory, even for a replacement extractor, or a new recoil spring, with all due respect, doesn't that bother anyone?

Or do you folks feel that the SA factory will in the near term 'liberalize' their parts policy?

I called in today and spoke with one of the reps and she did inform me that any part that is associated with 'liability' needs to be replaced at the factory.

This might keep me from buying an XD45 (and I hope SA executives read this) and I share this with all due respect.

That REALLY bugs me too, bro. SA needs to change that policy sooner than later as it's riddled with problems and potential problems. Such as, what if legislation were to be passed that prohibits handguns or their parts from being shipped in the mail? What would XD gunowners do then?

I went to my friend's local gun shop as he called me yesterday and told me he had a fantastic G19 Custom with Milt Sparks holster in stock. I also had the opportunity to hold an XD9 and an XD45 Tactical (five inch barrel).

The XD's fit my hands perfectly. I could not get over how well the 13 round .45ACP mag felt. Really nicely.

I easily could have ordered the XD45 but had hesitations due to the parts policy. We talked about it and probably soon, aftermarket folks will have parts for the pistol. Or maybe SA facory will open up their policy.

In the meantime, check out what I purchased on a thread at GT. SA's loss, I believe my gain:
