Primer Strike...
I never really noticed it before, but it looks like my XD is "smearing" or leaving a teardrop shaped primer strike rather than a good ole round ding. This was useing WWB 230gr ball. It also looks like my gun has a pretty healthy firing pin spring, because the primer strikes are deep. No need to worry about hard primers, I guess...Is this normal?

I haven't noticed this paticular problem with mine but i did have some weird experiences with WWB awhile back. I had some that were not seated correctly and had bent the case while the bullet was being seated, went to feed the round and the slide wold not go forward all the way, i was like wth, racked the slide to eject the round and discoverd the problem, in the same box i had two rounds that failed to fire, when i ejected them the primers were struck but no boom.

Mine as well.
I've heard that Glocks do this as well and not to worry about it as it's common in striker-fired handguns. |

Could be a couple of things. First it could be a weak firing pin spring. Second it could be that the slide is coming out of battery too soon, possibly weak recoil spring. But if the primer is not too smeared usually nothing to worry about.

Slop in the breach face opening where the pin comes out will cause that too. It's not a flaw just a way to keep the pistol reliable.
Really tight pistols (my Les Baer) are notorious for feeding/cycling problems where as Glocks & XD's are loose when compared to it but are very reliable. Skygun9

NO FIRE NO STRIKE
using the ww 230, we have put around 400 or so rounds down range with the 45 acp but today was the first problem of any kind. We had 2 FTFire, no primer marks-ejected it and run back in the chamber--boom both times-
any ideas ??? Ron

It's normal and all autoloading pistols do it. Some are more noticeable than others. My XD, Ruger and Colt all leave the same marks. Easy to see if you use a magnifying glass to check your fired brass.
