good to know, I never noticed this on my beretta, or my 1911. Will have to check them out some time.

My XD45 and my friend's XD40 both leave the teardrop shape on the primer. Both of our pistols have also run very reliably for over 1,000 rounds.

Normal according to Springfield
I observed the same "teardrop" on casings from my XD40, so I called their HQ and talked to a tech guy. He said it's normal and will be found on all XDs. I see from the previous comments lots of autoloaders do the same.

Maybe the casings are a little larger than spec and ran a little tight or they are slightly out of round. This happens sometimes according to some reading I've done. I've never experienced it first hand though. In fact I haven't had any failures yet in my short handgunning life.

Glocks don't smear primers, unless the primers get too hot from overpressured rounds. Glocks do leave a distinctive impression on primers, though, roughly the shape of the Glock firing pin.

If you think of how most recoil operated guns work you will see why it leaves that kind of mark, the barrel moves out of battery at an angle to the centerline it is in when the gun is in battery. The earlier gun that Browning made before the 1911 had TWO links, and the bbl would drop down out of battery in a parallel movement to the slide, it probably does not make a mark like that

Clean the firing pin channel, it might have grease/gunk in it, slowing down the firing pin. You can take it apart but I just shoot Gun Cleaner into it, shake it out, let it dry and put 2 drops of oil into it.
