Semi wad cutters
I've been reloading for semi-auto pistols 9mm-40SW for about 23 years with little or no trouble with FTE or FTF. Now, however, I am having no success loading for a new XD45 with SWC bullets of different manufacture and style. I 've followed loading recipes to the letter, when that didn't work I would try different col's and charges. If I load RN or XTP's no problems. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I know jack squat about reloading but could it be the OAL that is throwing everything off? I'm assuming every gun is different..

I'm still working out what I need to do, but my initial experiments seem to indicate that I need a longer COL for the XD45 than I do for my 1911's. It seems like having a bit more "shoulder" on the LSWC exposed above the case rim makes them feed more reliably. Once I get a really good recipe worked out I'll try to post it.

Many pistols, 1911s in particular, won't handle semiwadcutters without polishing and/or throating or other work. XD 45s might be similar. Sometimes loading to a slightly shorter or longer OAL will help. What exactly is the problem, feeding or extracting. Bullet not going up the feed ramp, wadcutter portion catching on edge of chamber, bullet nose hitting top of chamber, ...?

Most times the bullet catches in the mag, bullet down primer up, perhaps the OAL is too short. But I'm also having FTE

On my XD 45's maiden voyage I tried some LSWC's out of it, It handled them better than all my other 45's , excluding my S&W 4506, there were some jams though. I have since polished the ramp and chamber. I am going to go to the range later this week and try out the load again. My XD 45 has had some feeding problems prior to the polish job. I am curious to see how the next range trip will be. FWIW, mine eats ball ammo like candy and is very accurate. I will post results after the next range trip.

I just put 250 rounds of 200gr Bear Creek moly coated SWC's loaded with 4.8gr of tight group thru my XD-45 this morning and had no failures.
I have a friend who loads for me so I don't know the head space specs, but I'll find out and post it soon.

The problems I've had are exactly what was described . .occasionally I get a noise down, primer up in the magazine. Pull the slide back and let'er go and it just keeps on trucking. I "think" the problem is caused by my loads being about as light as they can be and still cycle my 16 1/2 pound spring in my 1911 reliabily. My "guess" is that the slide is just short stroking these cartridges but I'm not sure. I do know that it seems to feed any full power loadings without a single hiccup. I'm going to be slowly bumping up the loads into the 900-950fps range and see if that changes anything.
Regards,
Dave

I don't know what power rating Black Hills Remans are but they act the same as my reloads. My loads are in the upper end of the charge tables(850-1000fps). Using Unique and Universal.

Okay who's got a set of calipers. . .
I'd look at the OAL of different cartridges that you know feed well in your XD. Try to keep the SWC as close to the OAL as possible.
I don't reload but that's just my guess.
Have you polished your feed ramp?
