Could you drive over the XD-45?

You know...like in the "Torture Test" where someone drives a car over the XD-9 Service and it was good to go.

I speculate that the thin sidewalls of the magwell might be a little to thin to withstand an average car's abuse.

What do you think? Don't say "Try it out." That's not going to happen!

Someone needs to do an XD-45 Torture Test, and it isnt going to be me!

Running over the xd was done as part of a torture test the XD was put thru by forum member leibster back in April of 2005. About 10 pages were on that post with coments, some even pertaining to the gun and test.

I just picked up the mag at the gun store. Awesome article!!

Pretty damn amazing that the XD was run over multiple times and even parked on... and the polymer didn't break. Strong stuff!

I only had two slight disappointments,
1.) The pistol was cleaned several times. My conception of a torture test would exclude any kind of cleaning whatsoever. But what the heck, 20,000 rounds is quite a lot after all!

2.) Small pics!! MORE PORN! That one large pic just wasn't doing it for me. I need pinups.. posters... wide angle.. up close.. black light.. disco ball.. hi heels.. g-string.. oh wait....what was I talkin about??

+1 to the XD gallery forum idea

Hate to hash this back up to the top, but does anyone know if you can still get back issues of this article somewhere?? Thanks,

I was able to contact G&A / Primedia to get a copy this week. I called this number: 1 (800) 800-2666 and asked to get a back issue of G&A Handgun. Be specific with them the operator or she will try to give you a copy of June's G&A and July's G&A.

how too do it right

In all fairness you did not tell us which hand you are going to hold the weapon in when it is driven over. Then of course when you mend you will be happy to do the holster variations of the same test ?

HA! Good One!

I am willing to bet that the XD is just as tough as the rest of the XD lineup. I have owned two Glock 21's - one that I have personally seen run over by a truck, and it didn't break. In handling both, I would say that they are very sinilar in polymer strength. Just a wild ass guess - but based on owning both pistols.

I have performed extensive mods to the frame of said G21 as well.

I rounded the trigger guard, removed material under the trigger guard (better on the middle finger), removed backstrap material, and removed the finger grooves on the frontstrap. Then, I added the grip tape. STill, after removing the material, the frame flexed more than when stock. It was after this that it got run over, and didn't crack/break.

I'd be comfortable driving over one if it had a loaded magazine in it.

I really feel like the gun was engineered to be strongest when it's set up to be 'used' - meaning loaded.
