finally/magazines not dropping free

after about 1500 rounds total, including hydra-shoks and other hollowpoints, I finally had some failures with my XD .45 service. Two rounds missed the chamber completly and wound up pinched vertically, nose up, by the closing slide, and a third nosedived into the feed ramp and got wedged there. THe gun was quite dry at the time, as I hadn't shot it for awhile, so hopefully that was the cause and by lubing it more consistently I can keep this from happening again

- BUT-

I noticed that my magazines are not dropping free any more. They fall about halfway and I have to pull them the rest of the way out. I'm holding the mag release all the way in, not "tapping" it. What caused this, and is it related to my misfeeding issues?

Brand and type Ammo. you were using

When you had the failures to feed just what Brand and type Ammo. were using? Have you dropped that Mag. that won't fall free?

I've seen this exact thing over the weekend. A fellow club shooters XD45 mag seemed like it bulged near the bottom. His mags wouldn't drop free. I tried inserting them into my gun and it wouldn't even go in all the way. I didn't want to shove them in. Mind you this was empty..
His mags were also misfeeding and jamming. When did you buy your gun?

I have one mag out of five that is giving me the same problem. My mag is being pushed out by the ammo during recoil and the point of the bulge is at the bottom of the notch in the back of the mag. This notch is where the slide moves through to strip off the next round. I think I will contact SA about this.

Q. I can’t get the magazine to drop out without the mag button feeling like it’s going to break.

A. Take the base plates off the magazine. Then take a pot of boiling water.... drop the mag bases into the water for about 30-40 seconds. Dry the bases off and reinstall them on the magazine, load it up and give it a try. You will make the base plates more flexible by dehydrating them it wont cure anything but should help.

this came from ajames quite some time ago.

Winchester white box, which has always fed just fine until now. No, I haven't dropped either magazine, both of them stick. I don't have to pull very hard at all to get them out of the mag well, but neither drops free without a little tug.

Bought it at a gun show at the end of January.

The mags not dropping has not happened on my XD-45ACP yet.

It did happen on my XD-40SC with several mags....the wierd thing is the mags that would stick and not drop in my XD-40SC would drop perfectly from my XD-9SC...odd.

I had to send my XD-40SC back for some service and they fixed it somehow but not sure what they did....they may have just replaced the mags but for some reason I never asked and they never said.

I'm sorry that I don't have a solid answer but I bet the mags are swelling. Do you have a set of calipers to guage them agains someone else's mag?

Also check the mag shut to make sure you don't have a build up of crud causing this problem. Don't ask me how I know this!
