New XD-45 needs "break-in"?
I am stoked because yesterday I bought myself an XD-45.
Here in Kalifornistan, it was not available until yesterday with 10 round mags. As I was handling it during the safety demo, I noticed that the slide spring seemed pretty tight. Both the salesman and the SA rep agreed that it was tight. We all laughed that it just needed to be shot. One of the reasons I decided to buy this pistol was because you'all here on this forum raved about it, right out of the box. Most of the other pistol forums seem to have devoted areas to "break-in" procedures. Is the XD-45 that good that it doesn't need a "break-in" period? I will not claim to be very experienced with semi-autos. I have probably shot 5000 rounds through my friend's SA Loaded 1911 and Ultra Compact. But the springs on my buddy's SAs seemed alot looser. |

No breakin required
You are just feeling the strong recoil spring.

I read in a post a few days back about a guy having accuracy problems but after he broke it in a little it got a little more accurate. Or are you wondering about the spring just being tight?

Holding the XD
Holding the XD in one hand by it's grip and laying it flat infront of you near your chest then pulling and pushing the XDs slide against the hand holding the frames grip then with your thumb lock slide back.

Mine was very tight as well, but it loosened up after the first magazine through it. It i still heavier than a 1911, but it is much easier to rack now. I also found that the magazines (13 rounders) were difficult to fully load. I left them loaded for a while and they also loosened up.
