How do you store your .45?

Just wanted to get some input on what to store my 45 in? I mean ill be using this for HD as well and would like to keep it next to my bed, do you just keep it in the case it came with? Are silicone socks a good idea?

Please give me some thoughts here.

In my holster (unless its wet) in my locker.

The case it came in is fine, silicone socks aren't really necessary. A safe is even better.

Your sig reminds me of a Groucho Marxx saying, "Look at me. I worked myself up from nothing to extreme poverty".

If you don't have any kids, I'd just leave it out in the open next to your bed if it's going to have HD duties. The slide is Melonited so you won't have to worry about it developing surface rust. Do wipe it down though just for precautions.
Having it stored in a box or a silicon sock is just an extra step you have to go through just to get your gun. You don't want to be fumbling around for your gun in the middle of the night.

I hear ya there, maybe I can make some sort of holster on the side of my night stand? Im sure someone makes them for this type of mount.

On my side or at arms length is the farthest it gets. Stored in the holster or on my nightstand. My kids are older and well "trained" about guns. Still if it's not in the safe it's in my sight and under my control period.

I'd recommend one of those touch pad handgun safes.
I keep my HD gun in one, which is bolted to the inside of the nightstand.
That way, if my house is broken into during the day, they'd have to take the entire 80lb oak nightstand.

I don't know if this is something you might be interested it but check out diamondsentrydistributors.com . They make what they call a "Night Sentry" that fits between your mattress and box spring. It has spots for your gun holster, flashlight , and cell phone (mace, stun gun, whatever). You have to provide the holster for your firearm.
