1000 rds. at Rio Salado
Gents I just got back from Rio Salado Sportsman's Club. A friend and I were lucky enough to get a Practical Bay all to ourselves this afternoon. He was shooting the XD-40 tactical and I had my new XD-45 4". We setup up different scenarios, plates, barrels etc. We each ran about 500 rounds through our guns.
I know that this should be a range report but man, this gun is so darned comfortable to shoot. It took a few passes to get the double taps dialed in nice and tight, other than that a kick in the pants to shoot. I am definately now in the mood for the pre-travel to go away, the trigger is not all that crisp but in the "adrenaline" of the moment was not very noticable. Canyon Creek or Springfield for the trigger job is the question. Any suggestions or opinions of the two would be appreciated. My buddy wants the same thing done to his XD. He shot my XD-45 and I can tell that he wants one bad I'm going to go wash the powder residue of me and the XD. Thanks for the great forum. Controls-Geek

I think either will do a fantastic job, although I think CC may be cheaper.

I started out removing the pre-travel on mine first then ended up doing the full blown job. I compared my trigger job to the one someone has on video on this sight done by CC and it is just like it. Total time put into this project was about 8 hrs.. So unless you have the time and tools do send it to either of your choices. I have to say though the difference is truely night and day.

from what I've read springfield and CC are about the same as far as trigger job goes. Only springfield charges quite a bit more.

Another thing about trigger jobs..
Springfield can take a month or more to return. Canyon-Creek...1 week. |

Are you a smith? I saw some pictures on this forum about removing pre-travel and am not smart enought to see how that works in this gun. Stopping that arm on the frame? Do you have any more information in this regard? Thanks....

Have trigger jobs from both.
I have three XDs with trigger jobs:
1. 9mm Tactical, Springfield competition. This is simply outstanding; break is about 3 lbs or so with little take up and overtravel. 2. 9mm Service, Springfield combat. Take up and overtravel are the same as factory, but the break is lighter and the pull is very smooth compared to factory stock. Approximately 4 lbs. 3. 45ACP Tactical, Canyon Creek carry. This pull is really sweet, you can search for my report on it if you want. It does have reduced overtravel and improved reset but has a very nice 4 lb pull which still gives a palpable warning that the trigger is being pulled. This is good for stressful situations. Either place gives you a superb trigger pull, and they are advertised correctly. In my opinion, never use the competition trigger on a carry gun. All three were worth the money. The Canyon Creek will definitely get back faster. My next one will be a Canyon Creek on my new 4" 45ACP; I'll be getting the 4 lb carry. |
