500rds through Tactical this weekend!!!
Well after letting my new Tactical .45acp collect dust in the safe for a week, I finally got to the range. The wife & I ran a little over 500rds of various ammo through the new Tacical. This was the first time it had been fired. Ammo was the big yellow value pac box of UMC 230gr ball and 230gr Golden Sabers and Hornady 230gr+P FPD. I'm quite pleased there were absolutely ZERO malfunctions of any type. The big Tactical just keep putting them where we pointed. Also took my 9mm Service just to compare. For me the .45 was way more accurate. I actually was making one ragged hole the size of a softball shooting at 15 yards. Ran the target all the way back to the very back of the range...the lights didn't even work at that distance. My wife said "you are kidding, right?" Unloaded a full mag, couldn't see the results. At that distance I was basically point shooting and hoping for the best as the front Mepro sight covered a lot of the target. When I ran the target back to us my wife's face said it all. 6 holes in the dead center with the rest very close. The group was about the size of a dinner plate. I know this isn't the greatest, but awfully good for me. It drew attention from nearby shooters...who I let try a few rounds. One guy was so impressed he immediately went inside and purchased a service model, it was the only .45acp XD that they had available. I'm glad I waited and got the Tactical model...its one sweet pistol. Truthfully...even more accurate than the Kimber TLE that I used to own. This ones a keeper for sure!!! The only negative was my wife prefered shooting the 9mm Service. She said it just fit her hand better. While they look and measure very close in grip girth...you can definately feel the difference when you compare both side by side. I too will admit the 9mm feels better in your hand...but thats a minor detail...slinging 230gr chunks definately makes up for it!!!

My XD 45ACP Tactical is also the most accurate of all 45's I ever tried (HK USP, Para 14-45, CZ97, 1911). Love it!

I currently have a Tactical .45 GAP and im thinking about trading it in for the ACP. BUTTT, i have this dilema, i cant decide weather i want the Service or Tactical..... I really like my Gap. but im not sure if the Tacktical is the right platform for me right now, what did you guys think about when choosing it?

is concealment an issue? the service is much easier to carry...
on the other hand, tactical has longer sight radius and as such should be more accurate. |

My thoughts

After shooting my XD-45 Service IMHO if someone has problems hitting their targets with the 4" service model. |

Carry was not an issue with me. Although it would not be a significant problem. Of course a mag full of 230 grainers weighs a bit more and it takes a split second longer to clear leather when accessing your weapon but nothing worse than a 1911. I chose the 5in due to the longer sight radius, plus the extra weight out front really helps speed double taps. The big .45 is very easy to hold on target for a quick follow up. If I had to carry it stuffed in my pants everyday...I would choose the Service. All else...the Tactical is the holy grail. And you are absolutely jerking yourself off if you think the Service shoots as well as the Tactical!!!
