XD 45 Adoption by Police Departments?

I am working with security folks from a number of companies and have recommended that they look at XD pistols for their armed security personnel around the world.

One of the executives asked me recently if any US police forces have adopted the Springfield XD (any caliber) as a duty weapon. Anyone know the answer to that one?

I know Wichita PD offers it to female officers and officers with smaller hands as an alternative to the Glock 22. Department has @ 800 sworn officers.

I know I'd be claiming small hands in this case.

Sorry I didn't clarify. The XD-40 is the only option, not the .45 ACP. It will be interesting to see how much of the law enforcement market the XD can take from Glock.

I think what it will really come down to is how much they have to pay to replace the Glocks. It won't have anything to do with thinking or testing the XDs are a better safer choice. With the law enforcement Dept. managers it's all about price.

Last summer, I saw a Denver PD officer with an XD in his holster. I was hustling through the airport and did not have time to stop and inquire...But I know it was an XD.

Denver still allows their officers to carry cocked and locked 1911's as well. (at least they did as of last summer.)

Our department has a list of manufaturers and as long as your gun was made by someone on the list and it is a 9mm, .40&W or .45acp, it can be carried. SA is on the list and I carry my XD-45acp.

I feel you made a very wise choice I have only been a DX-45 owner for a very short time but already feel it's a good choice for my carry. I quickly ordered an IWB carry holster from Comp-Tac and now it's right on me day and night.
