XD Lifespan
Hello all:
First post here. After more years of professional firearms toting than I care to admit, I just bought my first XD, the XD45. It handled so well that I just had to have it. I was actually planning to buy a Glock 21, but the XD seemed superior in every way. Now that I have the XD, I wonder what the track record is on lifespan for these weapons? I have a Glock myself that is 14 years old and still works great. I bought the XD thinking that can be treated a bit roughly and perhaps not cared for perfectly. I suspect it is going to work very well, but wonder what some of you with older XD's have found? I'll be putting a lot of rounds through this one and will let you know how it goes. |

Considering the XD has only been out for 8 years (including the HS2000) the maximum lifespan of any at the moment is, well, 8 years.
That said, I have a Generation 1 HS2000 (the earliest model) and it is perfect after many thousands of rounds. Shoots better today than the day I got it. There is absolutely no reason to doubt it will be going strong for many years more. Of course any mechanical device can wear out, but the number of rounds required to wear out an XD would be impressive indeed.

It is a bad mofo one good thing about the XD-45ACP is it has a better finish than the other XDs hopefully making it more rust proof. SA has a life time warranty so you really have nothing to worry about. The occasional locking block crack that is promptly replaced by SA. So you got your self a life time gun there!

Guns are like cars, rating them in years is worthless. Its mileage that counts. There are XD's known to have over 20,000 rounds and are still ticking.

At Impact we have a 9mm SC & A Service 40. Both guns have over 30K through them

For comparison....
For comparison, I believe the consesnus on service life for Glock pistols in .357 and .40 is about 20,000 rounds. That's not to say that they won't last many more rounds than that, its just to say that if you're using the weapon in front-line service, you'd probably replace it at that point.
The 9mm ones will obviously hold up the longest.
