Will a 5" barrel work in a Service model?

I would like to know before beginning the application process for a suppressor for my XD-45 Service. If the 5" barrel from the XD-45 tactical model will work in a service model, it would make things a lot easier.

If you have tried it, not just hearsay, please let me know. The plan is to order a 5" replacement barrel and have it cut down and threaded by a gunsmith so that I can attach a suppressor onto my XD-45 service.

For the actual suppressor, I'm pretty sure I'd go with one from Advanced Armament, either the Eclipse/Tactical or the Evolution-45.

PS: Yes, this is legal.

um....I have not tried it
but i believe that the 5"
has an un-captive recoil spring assembly
where as the 4" is captive
so the spot where the rod attaches
to the barrell might be different im not sure though

Not sure about the XD-45 for sure but my XD-40 Tactical barrel will go in and function just fine in my XD-40 Service. The barrel profiles are the same.

Very interesting! 4" barrel for concealibility in plain clothes and full 5" barrel performance with 45 SUPER when in bear country! I'm not even interested in threading it.

I'm going to follow this thread!

While we're on the subject, does anybody know if the Service barrel will work in my Tactical?

Edit: That would be a joke boys and girls. Please don't try this.

I tried the barrel from my tactical in my service model. Slipped right in without a problem. A function check with ammo indicates the gun should run without a problem. However, I did not actually try shooting it.

Excellent, thank you!

Any chance you would try shooting it? Or should I just call Springfield at this point?
