2 FTF's in under 100 rounds

Hi everyone, first post here but I've been soaking up some of the knowledge. I am the proud owner the service model in 45 acp. At this point I only have 400 rounds through it. Right around number 250 I had my first failure to feed. The slide ejected the spent shell but stopped moving when it hit the next round. That was about 2 weeks ago. I took it to the range again tonight for another 100 rounds and at about 320 the same thing happened. I was using the other magazine tonight in case anyone was wondering.

My question is should I be looking to my handling of the firearm or should I be sending it to SA? I understand that limp wristing can cause problems, but I kind of doubt I'm doing that. I won't rule it out though as I was away from shooting for quite a few years because I could not justify the expense.

I would apreciate any advice you all could give me on this because I really do like the look and the feel of this pistol.

Questions

What Brand and type of Ammo. did this happen with? Have you kept the slide lugs well oiled? Are you sure that after shooting that many rounds you'r wrist might have been somewhat weak? meaning a limp wristing.

As for brand, tonight it was Winchester White box, 230 grain ball. The last time it was whatever the range had for practice ammo but it would have been similar. Rounds 201 - 300 were on one night, and rounds 301 to 400 happened tonight. Tonights failure happened very early in my shooting session. I don't consider myself extremely strong but I stand 6'6", weigh 250, and am considered fairly strong by those I work with.
The job has a fair amound of physical requirements so I know I should not be having a limp wristing problem due to physical reasons. I have cleaned and lubricated the pistol every time I've shot it. 100 rounds each time.

I hold the pistol tight with both hands and it does not seem to be raising an excessive amount between shots.

Send it back to SA

Well you know how well you held the XD and you cleaned and oiled it so I would just box it up and send it to SA for them to get it right. It could be a tight fit in bbl breach or it could be a bad extractor. Since it's a new gun I would send it back.

It is also possible that the way you hold the gun may be nudging the slide lock up enough to slow down the movement of the slide to the point where it malfunctions. Whatever it is good luck figuring out/fixing the problem.

"Limp Wristing" has little, if anything to do with the strength of the individual, unless, of course, you're weak, which you're not. I've seen several guys your size limpwrist. It's just a matter of technique. Also, as somebody else said, if you're riding the slide with your thumb or any part of your hand, that can cause the problems you describe.

Make a concentrated effort to not just grip the pistol tightly (you don't have to really grip very tightly), but keep your wrists locked and don't let your elbows act like shock-absorbers. If you do it right 500 times and wrong 1 time, you just might have one malfunction in 500 rounds.

O.k., 501 rounds.

IMHO check your grip position on the gun. Namely your right thumb. (Assuming you aren't southpaw)My guess is you are riding the slide release lever with your thumb. Make a habit to hold down your right thumb with your left thumb. If that isn't the issue I would call SA and let them have a look at it.

I highly doubt limp wristing. I have tried everything to make either of my XDs FTF/FTE. Limp wristing, gangsta style, upside down. Nothing I did hold wise would stop it from functioning.

LDC: When you tried "gansta style", did you feel the I.Q. being sucked from your brain?
