New owner of Tactical model.

All black and put 200 rds. through it yesterday. I can't give anymore info than that considering it's only the second time I've shot ANY gun. But boy, you go through ammo alot faster than a 1911 w/ the 7+1 mag. lol.

Dissasembley and cleaning are easier than I expected.

Congrats on the Tactical! And yes, you had better stock up on ammo. If you think it goes fast now....wait until extra mags hit the market and you pick up a few of those

Also, I'd love to see somone who has the service model too, do side-by-side range pics at the same distance, say 10yds. Just curious!

I've just started using the 100-round Winchester White Box ammo from Walmart, and even though the price is OK, after a while it adds up. Maybe I should only load 10 rounds at a time into the mags while at the range to slow myself down... The WWB ammo is boxed in five 20-round layers, and so 10 at a time means that it's two mags to a layer...

People on this site as well as others say that it normally takes a few hundred rounds to break-in a gun. Is this true? If so how many rounds does it normally take? Just lookin for a ballpark. 400?

I don't think there is an official amount of ammo that it takes to break-in a gun. The general accepted numbers seem to be anywhere from 200-500 rounds. Most anybody would agree that if you get past the 500 round mark and you are still having problems then something needs to be fixed. My XD didn't require any "break-in", it was shooting reliably with ball and hollow-point ammo right out of the box.

I really don't think the XDs need the longer shooting as the 1911 do. I think they are really set to go when brand new. If you can shoot 100 to 200 rounds and have no FTF or FTE problems I say it's good to go.

I'm skeptical of this "break-in" process on new guns. With todays machining technology I'm not convinced a break-in period is needed. If guns need a break-in, why not dump some valve grinding compound in them for the first N rounds and break it in quick? Modern guns that I've taken apart show none of the machine markings that metal parts had when people made them.

Ok, I got another question. I'm a very 'new' shooter and am trying to figure out what would be consider 'good' or acceptable at different distances. Like what should a decent group look like at 5-10-15-20 yards? At 25 yds. I can still hit the evil paper man, but head shots are 1 out of 6 or so. I'm going back this saturday (b/c it's a blast) with more ammo, and want to see if I can do better.

Also, it seemed like the gun was shooting to the right a little. Could this be b/c of my grip? Or other reasons? Open to all suggestions. Thanks.

I believe if its pulling to the right you may want to check your trigger squeeze. Make sure you are pulling the trigger straight back smoothly when firing.

The most important thing to do is to learn what proper technique is, then practice, practice, practice. Most accuracy problems are caused by the shooter, not the firearm.
