moving up from 40 SC... ghost ring sights?

thanks to a gift from my son, i'm movin on up from a .40 XD SC to the most awaited .45... i had a nice set of home-installed trij sights in ghost ring style on the .40 and was wondering,

does anyone have experience in locating the same style sights for the .45? will the .40 sights fit the .45 slide?

and was it a do it yourself install vs. sending the slide to a worthy pistolsmith?

can't wait to file my first field report on the new .45

Your XD40 sights will fit your new XD45 Since you installed them on your XD40SC, shouldn't be a problem putting them on your xD45, I would think. I usually opt out and have my local gunsmith do it, so I don't mess up the slide!

Seeing as how all the sights sold at pistol gear.com for the XD line for pistols only have 1 size, My guess is, yes, the sights will fit both guns and the sight transition shouldn't be horrible if you know what you are doing.

When you get your sights changed out at a gunsmith, do you need to bring them the whole gun or just the slide?

I know they only go on the slide, but I'm not sure how they do the sighting in procedure.

Just the slide will do.

Most gunsmiths just install the sights, center them, and say, "Have a nice day!". Guys like Rich (Canyon Creek) install them, then test fire, making sure that the sights hit where they are supposed too. I guess this is the difference between installing sights and fitting sights.

And in the case of someone like Rich at Canyon Creek, would I still just send the slide? I assume they have XD's they can swap my slide onto for the testfiring, or no?

It's best to send your whole gun, because no two slides ar the same. That said, to save you on shipping costs, it would be best to speak with Rich to get his thoughts on it.
