Ghost ring sites

Has anyone tried ghost rings on their XD? If so good, bad or indifferent?

I bought a set for my XD-9 and quickly learned that the rear ring must be close to your eye to "ghost" so they are really more like a peep sight. Because of that, it slowed down my sight aquisition and was unacceptable for my uses. The sights now reside in their original box in a drawer, in case I ever come up with a use for them.

The upside is, if your gun is not a fighting handgun, to be used only for plinking and such, the peep sight is very acurate. I also noted that other shooters were very curious about the setup. They were a great conversation piece on the range.

I realize this is an older thread, but I put a ghost ring on a .40 tactical. Why, you ask? Well, I already had other guns for plinking and I was a bit dissatisfied with my accuracy with the standard sights. So, I decided to make a really good nightstand gun. I figured the ring would allow easy acquisition when waking with blurry vision. The ring and the front sight have tritium dots so they're good in low light. I also keep a light mounted to it. I'm sure I'll take a verbal beating for putting a ring on a tactical, but hey, I'm happy. The accuracy at short distances is pretty good and I can drop a magazine in a target much quicker than I could with the 3 dots.

Nothing wrong with using g.r. sights on a tactical pistol. Contrary to one post, g.r. sights are known for their quickness, not accuracy, in handgun applications.

I got them because I train to shoot center of mass, not bullseye. They work great for that. Much quicker than the factory sights, IMHO.
