New Xd-45 Sights Off

Well I broke down and decided to get the XD-45ACP .. Went on Friday and they had one left. One hour later me and the new gun were on our way home. I wanted to go shooting on Sat but I was so sick I couldn't even stand without getting dizzy.

Well today I felt better so I went to the range just to check out the weapon and make sure there were no problems with it and here are the observations I found.

Very nice. Good balance and aim. Doesn't shoot as soft as my Glock 30 (.45ACP) but is better than most other .45s I've shot. I got this to replace the Glock 30 as my duty weapon since the Glock 30's grip was a little too small to be trying to draw from a level III holster. The grip on the XD-45 is a lot better size to grab ahold of under stress. The one problem I'm having is I'm consistantly shooting a little low and to the right. I know I can adjust the sights for left/right but to my knowledge there are no height adjustment for up/down (different sized sights). With Glock they have different rear sight heights you can order to get the proper up/down sight picture. Does XD sell sights that are different sized like Glock does?

I saw there are adjustable sights made for the XD series but I want to add night sights. I was looking at getting the TFO's but I'm afraid the sights on those might not be right on like the standard sights. Does anyone make adjustable night sights for the XD series?

Let me guess, you shoot left handed?

Yes I'm left handed but a little weird. I shoot pistols most of the time left handed although I'm about as accurate shooting right handed. The reason I shoot left is its more natural to draw with the left. Now the odd thing is I shoot rifles right handed.

Check your trigger control. If you don't have enough of your trigger finger on the trigger, a lefty will shoot right.

I had the same problem on my first time on the range with my XD-45. Took a minute to slow down and review the basics, now I'm shooting straight.

I'm left handed also and have the exact same problem. I used to shoot very low and to the right, however I have improved to the point of just slightly offcenter to the right, but correct elevation. I train with snap caps and it has made remarkable improvements.

Your problem most likely isn't anything to do with the sights then. Trigger control, slight flinch, grip are probably to blame. I am right handed, and lots of my shots are left or low left. I'm still working out my problem, getting better but there's still room for improvement. If you are concerned that the sights are off, see if the range has a pistol rest, or buy a cheap one. I just purchased one for $17 and am going to try it out next time i go to the range.

I doubt it. I shoot right on with the Glock 30. I also had about the same results using a bench and sandbags. My son shot a few mags and his were a little low and to the right. Not as much as mine but still noticable and he's right handed.
