Carry systems for the XD45

What's up folks, I just bought my XD45 ACP @ 2 weeks ago, I put in about 500 rounds and cant find any reason not love this gun, I've always preferred lg frame autos mostly due my being a large man with lg hands.
I looked at Glocks but did not like the in line mags which made the handle feel to small. 13 + 1 in 45 cal. with a 4 in barrel that gives me the feel of a lg frame with the concealability of a smaller weapon. I've just found my new carry piece. I love the Beretta's but after 10 years of using the 92f and being proficant with it I was shocked at how well I did with the new gun right out of the box. Now I'm looking for a concealment carry system for the XD45, Any suggestions would appreciated.

I think I'm going to go with two; a shoulder rig for those jacket and riding days, and a Galco Sihouette or the like for other times. Needless to say I plan on CCW-ing mine.

I have carried both on duty and off duty a multitude of different ways. By no means am I am authority on the subject, but I can tell you MY preference and give some insight as to why. I need a sytem that allows easy access for a fast presentation. I need a system that is rock solid and doesnt move. And I need a system that is easily concealed without having to resort to a bulky cover garmets.

Shoulder rigs: Pros- they look cool, the conceal well with a jacket, easy access. Cons- the majority of them out there just arent comfortable or practical for my needs, they cause strain on my shoulders and neck, a cover garmet is required for concealability, and the holster moves around quite a bit, even with the tie down systems. For short periods of time, in a formal setting, I COULD use a shoulder system, but I do not prefer to.

Ankle rigs: Pros-Extremely concealable with the right weapon / holster choice. I have found them to be very comfortbale when positioned right. I have found some to be very secure even while running. Cons- not easily accesible if standing, If I am going to be doing a lot of driving, I prefer an ankle holster due to the fact that it is easily accesible with minimal movement when seated in a car.

OWB holsters: Pros- Extremely versatile given all the choices available, can be concealed easily, are usually comfortable, easy access with fast presentations possible. Cons-if someone is checking you visually for weapons, this is usually where they are going to pay the closest attention.

IWB holsters: Pros- Easily concealed, some comfort is lost, but with a quality holster no discomfort is noted, easy access unless the shirt is tucked in over the holster, some speed of presentation is lost when shirt is tucked in over holster as well.

These are my insights on different carry methods.

For MY needs, my setup is as follows:

Every day carry is usually with cargo pants, a t-shirt or knit pullover untucked covering an IWB tuckable holster with my PRIMARY piece. A "belly" gun is in my front off hand pocket in a pocket holster.

For more dressy affairs where a coat is not proper, I will wear the IWB with the shirt tucked over the holster, the belly gun in the off hand front pocket. If the coat is required and I wont be taking it off, Ill leave the shirt tucked behind and not over the IWB.

For periods where I will be driving a lot and walking a lot, say when Im taking the Mrs shopping to many many many different stores, I will go with the ankle holster, the belly gun and the IWB. Some say its too extreme. Maybe so but my reasonings for it are simple. The ankle holster is for when Im driving, the belly gun is to get you off of me if you catch me off guard and the primary carry is for when the SHTF.

For MOST days, the IWB with primary peice and the pocket holster with the belly gun is sufficient. Im sure others can list their reasonings as well.
