Space under night sights
Just had the gunsmith put a set of bright sites (the fiber optic plus tritium model) on my XD45, and there's a significant space under the front sight. Anybody else notice this?

In order to get adequate ambient light to the FO tubes, the sights are designed so the bottom of the sight DOES NOT contact the slide. The gap is small, but yes noticeable. I have the TruGlos TFOs (same as yours) on my XD45. From an aesthetic standpoint, it would be nice if they touched the slide but the sights are just so darn good, I am willing to overlook it. I have now shot well over 500 rounds, the sights remain dead on and they are holding up well. No complaints. I went from Meprolights to the TFO and have never looked back - and the Mepros are great sights in their own right.

I understand the theory, but why isn't there a space under the rear sights?

I had the TFO's put on my 40 sub a couple of weeks ago and there is a space under both the front and rear sight.

Due to the length and width of the sights, you need a gap so the don't bind on install. If the sights are installed by a gunsmith, they may be able to fit the sights to limit the amount of the gap.

The main thing is gap or no gap, they don't move once installed - at least not on my XD45. Solid as a rock. And what a sight picture. Best night sights (TruGlo TFOs) I have ever owned. Meprolights are a close second in my book as far as ease of pick up.
