Took my .45ACP Tac Out
Nice board you have here!
I got interested in the XD a while ago but couldn't figure how I could shoe horn one into the collection as I already had a mighty fine polymer 9mm compact and subcompact pistol and was not at all interested in .40, .357 Sig or .45 GAP. Someday I'll have to get one of these neat little pistols, thought I. Well, someday was last Tuesday when I bit hard on a 5" .45ACP XD Tactical. I don't have Andre the Giant hands so the prospect of a double stack .45ACP pistol that promiced to be more manageable than the Glock 21 I tried and sold so many years ago was very appealing. I found the grip of the XD .45ACP to be roughly equivilant of a Gen 1 Glock 17. The grip angle is all good and the presentation is natural. My one range visit put two boxes of WWB downrange comfortably and without failure. The 5" version seems to look more at home with the slightly over-long grip than the 4" one I saw. Now I've spent years 'accepting' the Glock trigger. Once you get to know it you forget how much you give up for all the positives a Glock offers. The XD .45 has the best trigger I've experienced in a polymer handgun, hands down. If I could improve anything it would be the trigger reset which is a hair longer than the Glock. On the other hand, besides banging out quick pairs - which on a .45 is no childs play, having a short reset is only good for target shooting in my opinion. I'm not taking a shot then balancing the trigger at the reset as I maneuver around in a serious situation - that's an ND waiting to happen. In fact all the things that normally sell me on a firearm were positives for this pistol. As I said the grip and trigger are wonderful, the factory sights more than acceptable, the XD family has a history of reliability and the Springfield warranty means I won't get stuck with a lemon. And there's not a spot of citrus in this pistol! It shoots extremely well and weighs less loaded than my Kimber empty (well, it feels that way). This is a pistol I've been waiting for a long time to shoot! |

Congrats on the Tactical and welcome to the forum! I have to agree with you on the feel of the XD45 (I have the 4" model). I had Glocks for many years, but the XD is much more to my likeing.
