Well, I DO carry a 5" XD loaded with Federal HST's on duty! Granted, Ive had a lot of work done to my gun (mainly because Im an idiot who cant leave well enought alone) but it fed HSTs and everything else I fed it from day one. I DID notice that it fed "better" when I went to a +2 Wolf spring- Since I only run full house loads through it I didnt see the need to keep a lighter spring in it. Tell him to go for it! And when he has extra $$ laying around he can send it and the gun to Rich at Canyon Creek so it can be tweaked into his own version of perfection!

Wow, thanks for that. Exactly what i was looking for. I had Rich do the trigger on my XD45 Compact, and it's the best XD trigger I've tried. I hear that Springer Precision, and Powder Creek do an excellent job as well.

A couple of questions, if you don't mind: If it fed everything from day one, how did it feed "better" when with a +2 Wolf spring?
When you say full-house loads do you mean HST+P? And finally, did you have any ramp or chamber work done?

The chamber on my 45C is anything but tight, as there is a tiny bit of side-to -side "wiggle room" with a live round in the chamber.

Thanks in advance.

I bought it used. All got hung up on the feed ramp, which was polished.

My 1911's worked better then the XD's...they tend to have issues at the classes I'm at as well. Oh well...
That explains your rabid defense of continuous practice drills. IF I sold every weapon I had a problem with, I would have no weapons. Fortunately for me all 3 of my SA pistols have been nearly flawless. Yes I practice my "Type" malfunctions, but not like I expect the weapon to fail every pull. Every weapon I have purchased was "worked" in and have since been flat out reliable.

Find ammunition that works, if you can't something is either wrong with the magazine (used weapon perhaps), or the gun is just plain broke and needs a very short trip back home for repairs or replacement. This is where your warranty comes in. Things happen and SA has so far stood behind everyone I've personally talked to (not just the invisable people on this wonderful forum mind you).

Don't you dare let the problem be your form. You will be moved to the front of the class...... over to the corner please.......

FRC suit activated.

Lol, I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like it isn't in the stars for this guy to have a reliable auto. Even his Glock has failed.

Of all the wonderful answers you have here.....the best, was the one that stated, he needs to pick up some of the ammo he is going to shoot and try it in his gun!!! I have seen two identical guns, bought by brothers, that would not shoot the same ammo. They were both trying to shoot Speer Gold Dot 230gr. ammo. The fact that he is planning to use this as his duty weapon, I would suggest a couple of boxes at just about any conceivable position the gun might be held in, and in different weather conditions (i.e. hot, cold, rain, fog, etc.) You may think I am going a bit too far, but the fact that this weapon could be used at any time to protect life.....be sure!!

I do not have the tactical but I do have the service model and mine feeds & shoots the HST fine!!! I moved from the Hydrashoks to the HST when I could no longer find the Hydrashoks locally. I found four 50 round boxed and shot two of them before stuffing my mags with them.

Rich has done a great job on everything he's done for me, and hes only about 70 miles from me, so I can pick up and drop off my stuff! Ive heard good things about the other two as well, but Im more than happy with Canyon Creek and I will continue to go there.

A couple of questions, if you don't mind: If it fed everything from day one, how did it feed "better" when with a +2 Wolf spring?
It seemed that the heavier spring lessened the sharpness of the recoil impulse and it certainly made the slide close on the next round with more authority! I cant document it, but it seems that the increased slide momentum. helps push the front end back down on target faster too, but it just might be in my head! I did install a Don's Guide rod at the same time, so that might be contributing to the lesser muzzle rise too!

When you say full-house loads do you mean HST+P? And finally, did you have any ramp or chamber work done? I shoot only 230g loads, even for practice so I put in the spring that Wolf recommended for shooting those loads. I have run some +p Winchester Ranger with no problems but I have not tried the +p Federals. The HST's that we are issued shoot pretty well though! I polished the feed ramp on my gun when it was new with Fitz and a 28ga bore swab chucked into a drill- I do this with most of my guns, not because they need it I guess, but I like the mirror look and it makes me feel better!

The chamber on my 45C is anything but tight, as there is a tiny bit of side-to -side "wiggle room" with a live round in the chamber. My gun seemed to have a standard chamber, it didnt appear to tight, but fed everything well. Ive since swapped to a Pistol Gear match barrel (fitted by Canyon Creek) which DOES have a tight chamber, but will feed even empty cases. Im not sure if it is the barrel or Rich's work, but it shoots WAY better than Im capable of! Maybe I should sell you my stock/polished barrel!!!

Thanks in advance.
No problem, I hope everything works out for you!

BTW- Rich will do a sweet DUTY trigger for you as well if you ask- mine is just under 5lbs with a small amount of take up (insurance!) and very little overtravel with a crisp, short reset- just like I asked for!
