"Striker Fired" is not an action classification. It only means that the firearm does not have any type of traditional hammer. "Striker fired" actions are also nothing even remotely new...every bolt action rifle ever made (that I am aware of) is "striker fired". The action classifications of "Single Action", "Double Action", and "Double Action Only" all refer to whether or not the pulling of the trigger moves the hammer/striker (significantly) or if it just releases the hammer/striker. On the XD's, pulling the trigger only disengages the internal safeties and releases the striker, that makes it a "Single Action" firearm.

If I were you, I'd go with the 1911, and make no apologies about it.
I, for one, can't shoot a 1911 at all. It simply does not fit my hand for crap. The XD does, and I shoot it OK. You won't catch me worried about what a 1911 aficianado thinks of my decision. Enjoy your Kimber, and more importantly, enjoy knowing that you will hit fast and well with it, each time it leaves the holster. BTW, I still think a well built 1911 is the best looking pistol EVER. Almost every time I go to a gun store, I end up with one in my hand. Then I hand it back. I just can't stand the way it feels in my hand, dunno why. I had one for over a year, when I tried IPSC, likely 15 years ago. I sold it. I have shot better with EVERYTHING I've owned since, except the AMT Back Up 45. Whole 'nuther story there... What works... WORKS...

Funny thing, I carry a Kimber 45 compact every day and lov eit but when pick up my XD-45 service I shoot better. If I pick up my CZ75 BD Police I feel like I just can't miss. Still, I carry my Kimber and feel well protected.

I shoot a 1911 better than an XD, but I shoot an XD better than I shoot a Glock. Good on you not to drink the Block Kool Aide.

My agency has a GREAT alternate weapon policy, and many take advantage of it. They will put me through the conversion course when we start getting the Glocks in to replace the HK, but we'll still be allowed our alternates unless a new boss comes in with a new perspective. Deputies carry a wide variety of 1911s, Sigs, SW, etc. rather than the issued HK. |
