didn't think so. One .45ACP duty gun to another. Yeah, one's a high-cap polymer without a thumb safety, and the other's a classic design from 100 years ago.

Service XD or even a Tactical. Especially the tactical strikes me as something more similar to the 1911, compared to the compact.
The similarity of the tactical is the 5" barrel. The only thing compact about the compact is the shorter grip, which I prefer. It is not in my budget to go out and buy a XD45 Tactical; esp when I have tried the compact already. I don't think one inch in barrel length is going to make that much difference.

I learned a long time ago; never get rid of a gun, as soon as I do, I regret it. I may go back to it if a new boss outlaws single actions.

My next pistol will likely be the FN P45. I shot the 40 and liked it...

Sometime when you have a little cash, send the XD to Springer Precision for a trigger job, and maybe even a match barrel...then see what you think of it. A trigger job from Springer Precision is almost a "must have" for any long-time 1911 shooter. The trigger on the 1911 is just too dang forgiving of poor trigger manipulation. Give someone that is a life-long (and dang good) DA wheelgun shooter an XD and they will shoot very good with it. But a lot of 1911 shooters have less than ideal trigger manipulation, so anything with a longer trigger pull is difficult for them to shoot well "out of the box".

One has a plastic lower, the other not. It changes balance, feel, even recoil can be felt differently.

I didn't mean for you to buy a new one--just that the longer barrel will change the feel of the gun, and I thought perhaps the shorter grip might be an issue.

I don't have a dog in this fight--you need to choose the weapon you have the most confidence in. I was just ideating about what makes it different, and I forgot one other issue--the trigger.

You could make trigger mods (presuming your agency allows it), and the feel of the XD trigger can be smoothed out and lightened a lot. I did it on my XD-9, then on my XD-45. So that may have been something to do with it, too.

The funny thing to me is that I didn't particularly care for the 1911 platform--especially the trigger. But that's apples and bicycles--they're different actions. It just matters what you can make work best, and since having the right duty gun--the one in which you have the most confidence--matters more to you as an LEO than it ever will to me, you've gotta go with your gut.

I do not agree with spending hundreds of dollars for what is supposed to be a great weapon, and then send it off for upgrades. It is what it is, a good pistol, that I'm keeping around as is. It just won't be the gun I strap on every day.

I will if the boss outlaws single actions. Unless I like the FN P45 more.

Whatever floats your boat

The bottom line is you chose to stick with what is most comfortable in your hand and you shoot the best with. Nothing wrong with that.

I pick my G-30 over my XD-45c for carry. I shoot the G-30 better than my XD-45, it feels better in my hand.

Doesn't mean they are not both good firearms.

KenW,
If your boss outlaws single actions, then you can't carry the XD...it's a single action.

No worries.

I love the feeling of a Browning Hi-Power... and can shoot it very well, but it's just a finicky weapon when it comes to ammo. And sometimes, even the powder/primer/day of the week.

Shoot what is most comfortable, especially if it's a "career" pistol. I carry because I WANT to carry, you carry because you HAVE to carry. Big difference.

It is? I thought it was classified as "striker-fired", and not SA...
