I have not gone through the whole thread, apologise if a repeat, but...

As mentioned earlier difficulty of you moving to childs room while in defense mode. You can potentially be stuck in a situation where you are between wife and childs room, with 2 loved ones in the line of fire behind the walls/doors.
So other options?
1. Wife goes with you to retrieve/cover child. Requires 2 passes in open, retrieve and return.
2. Wife goes with you for cover and stays in room with child.
3. Is it possible to change room with child (swap bedrooms?) because wife makes one pass in open, taking child to safe room (Bathroom).

I would take a Home Defense class at local gun shop to help perfect the plan.

Also read "The Art of Two Guns" by Tiger Mckee. Some GREAT tactical tips and more for any firearm.

Dogs are awesome. I had a malamute that barked and snarled and looked like the guardian of hell whenever someone he didn't now came around. Scared the crap out of many folks. Was so gentle when he got to know the people though. Best alarm I had.
