Noob XD owner range report

Just picked up my first XD today! A shiny new 45ACP. This gun is amazing! In a package not much bigger than my Sig 229 I get 1 more round and in .45 ACP to boot. I put 200 rounds of Federal (I think) through it before even taking it home and doing the customary clean and lube on it. Its a shooter! I'm no great marksman but I was tearing ragged holes in the target at 7yds. I had one FTF. One round nosedived coming out of the magazine about half way through one of the magazines. Probably my fault as I think I limp-wristed that shot. I'm leaving town tomorrow but I'm looking forward to logging some more range time when I get back home in a few weeks. After taking it home and while I was cleaning it I noticed that this gun is substantial and very well built. It puts my old Glock 32 to shame. I couldn't be happier with my new purchase.

Check your magazines making sure they are clean. They do coat the springs with grease. Also make sure the magazine follower is functioning smoothly and not sticking. Had to buff mine out a bit on one of them.

Just thought I would mention that since you said you had a fail to feed. Limp wristing normally will cause a fail to eject. With the nose of the round pointing down it sounds like your follower was hung up a bit.

Hope ya like the pistol....just getting mine broken in at 350 rounds.

Thanks for the advice. I'll disassemble and clean the mags before my next range trip.

I have shot about 430 rounds through my XD45, with one FTF exactly the way you described yours. I was about halfway through the a mag of Remington UMC Hollow-Points, and the round nosedived coming out of the mag. What type of Federal ammo were you shooting when you got this nosedive? You'll love the XD, I know I'm impressed with mine!

I believe it was 230 grain FMJ ball. Have you had any more FTFs?

This is the one and only failure of any type that I have had with this pistol out of the 430 or so rounds I have shot so far. I suspect it was just an out of spec cartridge. This was also the first time I used the Remington UMC HP 100 round "value pack" from Wal-Mart, so I will see how it shoots the rest of the box of this particular ammo whenever I get a chance to go shooting again.

I shot through most of the remainder of the box of Remingtons and a box of CCI Blazers without a single problem. That makes about 550 rounds now with 1 FTF.
