Rust from skin contact?

My father purchased the XD-45 ACP and carries it concealed. He has noticed after just a couple of days having it close to his skin, a little rust on the barrel. Is that pretty much common? I just told him to wear a t-shirt tucked in so the weapon is not touching skin. Is there another solution?

Sounds like he suffers from what I do, and thats called "acid sweat". Keep a light coat of oil on the gun, including the barrel.

As if acid rain is not enough. Now I have to worry about acid sweat? Tell your dad to send the gun to me immediately for safekeeping. I have tested negative for acid sweat.

Acid sweat? WT#@! is that?

This happened with my Kimber TLE barrel bushing when I carried it IWB. Just clean it off and put some CLP or EEZOX (my preference) on it.

If it's from skin contact, how is his skin coming into contact with the barrel?

Do you really mean the slide is rusting? If it truly is the barrel, it is doubtful that his body has anything to do with it.

He probably means the part of the bbl/chamber the ejection port exposes.

Knew a guy in AZ whose sweat was so bad he "rusted" stainless steel guns and Glocks in just a few hours...
