Any Chrono Results Yet?
So how's the velocity from the 4 in bbl?
Shouldn't be any slower than from a USP compact or Glock 30? From a bbl that short, not sure the 45 ends up much better than a .40, or even a 9...

I said "ends up" any better. I know it starts out better.
Through heavy cloth (from FBI tests/data summaries), 5 round averages: 4 inch bbl 124/9 +P GD 20.2/.53 (1997) 147/9 GD 14.7/.55 (?) 165/40 GD 15.8/.60 (1997) 180/40 Gold Dot 17.1/.62 (1993) 5 inch bbl 185/45 GD 14.75/.68 (1997) 200/45 +P GD 18.8/.55 (1997) 230/45 GD 18.9/59 (1994) 230/45 GD 14.3/.70 (1993)

I like to use the Taylor KO formula when comparing different cartridges. You take bullet diameter * bullet weight in grains * muzzle velocity in fps and / by 7000.
For example: Standard 45 ACP load .451 * 230 * 850 / 7000 = 12.6 Drop the decimal and your Taylor KO factor is 12 45 ACP +P .451 * 230 * 950 / 7000 = 14.1 Drop the decimal and your Taylor KO factor is 14 9mm 147 gr. .356 * 147 * 975 / 7000 = 7.3 Drop the decimal and your Taylor KO factor is 7 40 S&W 180 gr. .400 * 180 * 1000 / 7000 = 10.3 Drop the decimal and your Taylor KO factor is 10 The thing I like about Taylors system is that it takes into account bullet diameter, not just weight. The higher the number the more knock down power the round has. |

That's OK for solids, not so good for expanding ammo...
So a 230g .45 ACP FMJ (or JHP that's doesn't expand) at 775 fps blows through a body at .45 and exits w a Taylor KO of 11.5 A 147g 9mm JHP at 975 fps expands to .65 caliber, exits, and stops just inside the clothes on the far side w a Taylor KO of 7. A 125g 357SIG JHP at 1375 fps expands to .75 caliber w a Taylor KO of 8.7. I'll take the 9 minimeters in those cases. I give the edge to the 45 over the 9/40/357 in most cases, though I think they are pretty close when it's 4 v 5 inch bbls; when it's 4 v 4 they are even closer.
