It's Here!!!!!
and boys.... I think we have a winner!!!!!! Just received the T&E XD45 from Springfield. We had picked the XD40 to replace our issue firearm, but then the XD45 came out. It was a bit of a wait to get the T&E gun, but it was worth it. The grip, as others have said, is just barely larger feeling that the XD40. One of the guys compared it to his G23 grip and about sh** himself when I told him it was a 13 rd 45acp. I think we have our new duty gun. Cant wait to shoot it, which should be early next week when we can get some range time.

WEll.... here's a range report. Shot the XD45 today and was thoroughly impressed. I took the gun as I got it from Springfield. No cleaning, no lubing, no checking mags for excess plastic;.... I wanted to give it a go straight from the box. It passed with flying colors!!!!
I tried every way I could to get it to jam. I limp wristed it, **** it upside down, weak handed, and finally weak handed with only the thumb around the grip safety [to depress it] and the trigger finger. I fired every time. I will admit to liking the slightly slimmer grip of the XD40, but how can you go wrong with a 45acp. The grip is so much slimmer than a Glock 21, it is hard to believe that it holds 13 rds. Spoke with Springfield after the range session. A sub-compact is in the works; will either be a 3 in. barrel or a 3 1/2 in. barrel. I believe the grip will be shortened to 9-10 rds. I think Springfield has a winner here; my only disappointment is that we wont be the first PD to adopt it. Apparently I was told that goes to Denver PD. My thoughts of photo-ops and fame were dashed, but I think the XD will serve us well!! |
